Video to be released if something happens to me: Imran Khan

Chairman PTI Imran Khan
PTI Chairman Imran Khan said Saturday he has recorded a video of the characters behind the "conspiracy" against his government, and if something happens to him, it will be released.

The ousted prime minister, in his address to the Sialkot jalsa, said a "conspiracy" was being hatched to take his life — and despite knowing about it earlier, he has now enough evidence to confirm it.

The PTI chairman, in light of the alleged plot to kill him, said he has recorded a video and stored it in a "safe place" in which he has mentioned each and every character that was behind the "conspiracy" to oust his government.

"They (without specifying) have deiced to kill Imran Khan. And this is why I have recorded this video as I don't consider what I do as politics, but this is jihad to me," the PTI chairman said.

Khan said he has named everyone — the people who were involved in the "conspiracy" abroad and at home. "I have said in the video that the names of every person who conspired against my government are etched on my heart."

The PTI chairman said the reason behind his video was that in Pakistan, powerful people are not held accountable, thus, through this video, he will expose everyone who went "against the country's interest."

Khan said that during his tenure, he wanted to hold the corrupt politicians accountable, but the "powerful people" who could do that have now accepted corruption as a norm.

The ousted prime minister urged people to come out against the government and support the PTI as if they do not do this, "you will have no future".

The ousted prime minister has held a series of rallies across different cities of Pakistan, including Karachi, Mianwali, Lahore, Peshawar, and Jhelum, as he readies his party against the government ahead of the Islamabad march.

Our government would complete its tensure in line with the constitution: Marriyum Aurangzeb

Information Minister Marriyum Aurangzeb
Information Minister Marriyum Aurangzeb said Saturday that the newly-elected Shehbaz Sharif-led government would complete its tenure in line with the Constitution.

The statement comes after PML-N's senior leadership held a huddle in London — the details of which are expected to be released soon — as speculations are being over the government's tenure.

A split in the ruling party was also seen as PML-N Vice President Maryam Nawaz and Defence Minister Khawaja Asif had stressed on early elections, in light of the troubles that Pakistan faces on the economic front.

Imran Khan, the chairman of the country's biggest Opposition party, PTI, has also called for snap elections as he has refused to accept the new government and vowed to march to Islamabad after May 20.

In today's press conference, the information minister confirmed that there were speculations regarding the PML-N's visit to London and that Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif would soon lay out the details to the nation.

Aurangzeb, saying that the visit was of a private nature, informed journalists at the press talk that during the London huddle, detailed deliberations were held on the rising inflation.

Bonfire of bitcoin: Why crypto assets are tumbling

bitcoin
The lightning uptake of crypto assets like bitcoin had swelled a volatile sector to a valuation of roughly two trillion dollars recently.

A week-long rout has wiped away tens of billions of dollars from that value and spread panic throughout the market.

Read more: Bitcoin falls 7.2% to $28,758

Bitcoin is the premier cryptocurrency and its value accounts for the lion’s share of the whole sector.

This week, its price at one stage plummeted to $25,500 -- less than half of its record price in November last year and the lowest valuation since it exploded at the end of 2020.

"Fears about rampant inflation and the abrupt ending of the era of cheap money have sent cryptocurrencies careering down a cliff edge," said Susannah Streeter of Hargreaves Lansdown, referring to the new monetary tightening policies of the US Federal Reserve and other central banks.

Violence clouds Jerusalem funeral of Al Jazeera journalist

Shireen Abu Akleh
Thousands of people packed Jerusalem s tense Old City on Friday for the burial of veteran Al Jazeera reporter Shireen Abu Akleh, after Israeli police stormed the start of the funeral procession.

Television footage showed pallbearers struggling to stop Abu Akleh s coffin from falling to the ground as baton-wielding police officers charged towards them, grabbing Palestinian flags from mourners.

Washington said it was "deeply troubled" by the scenes, while the European Union said it was "appalled" by the "unnecessary force."

The Jerusalem Red Crescent said 33 people were injured during the procession, of whom six were hospitalised.

Israeli police said they made six arrests. A government official said mourners had thrown "rocks and glass bottles".

In the occupied West Bank, an Israeli commando was killed during a fresh shootout with Palestinian gunmen near the flashpoint city of Jenin. The Islamic Jihad group said its fighters were responsible.

Israel and the Palestinians have traded blame over the fatal shooting of Abu Akleh during an Israeli raid in Jenin on Wednesday.

The Israeli army said an interim investigation could not determine who fired the fatal bullet, noting that stray Palestinian gunfire or Israeli sniper fire aimed at militants were both possible causes.

UAE president Sheikh Khalifa bin Zayed passes away

UAE president Sheikh Khalifa bin Zayed
United Arab Emirates President Sheikh Khalifa Bin Zayed Al Nahyan has died, the Ministry of Presidential Affairs said on Friday. He was also ruler of Abu Dhabi emirate.

“The Ministry of Presidential Affairs mourns to the UAE people, Arab and Islamic nations and the world the death of President His Highness Sheikh Khalifa bin Zayed Al Nahyan, who passed away on Friday,” the ministry said in a statement on state media without giving further details.

Under the constitution, vice-president and premier Sheikh Mohammed bin Rashid al-Maktoum, ruler of Dubai, would act as president until the federal council which groups the rulers of the seven emirates meets within 30 days to elect a new president.

Khalifa, born in 1948, had rarely been seen in public since suffering a stroke in 2014 and his half-brother Abu Dhabi Crown Prince Mohammed bin Zayed, known as MbZ, has been the de facto ruler of the US-allied UAE, an Opec oil producer.

“The UAE has lost its righteous son and leader of the 'empowerment phase' and guardian of its blessed journey,” MbZ said on Twitter, praising Khalifa's wisdom and generosity.

The UAE would observe a 40-day mourning period with flags flown at half-mast as of Friday and suspend work at all public and private sector entities for three days, the ministry said.

Condolences started pouring in from Arab leaders including Bahrain's king, Egypt's president and Iraq's prime minister.

Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif said he was deeply grieved to hear about Sheikh Khalifa bin Zayed's death.

"UAE has lost a visionary leader & Pakistan a great friend. We send our heartfelt condolences & sympathies to the government & people of the UAE. May Allah rest his soul in peace!" he tweeted.

Chief of Army Staff (COAS) Gen Qamar Javed Bajwa too offered his condolences.

"Pak has lost a great friend. May Allah Almighty bless his soul & give strength to bereaved family 2 bear this irreparable loss," the army chief said.

Khalifa came to power in 2004 in the richest emirate Abu Dhabi and became the head of state. He is expected to be succeeded as ruler of Abu Dhabi by Crown Prince Sheikh Mohammed.

Abu Dhabi, which holds most of the Gulf state's oil wealth, has held the presidency since the founding of the UAE federation by Khalifa's father, the late Sheikh Zayed bin Sultan al-Nahyan, in 1971.

England turn to Kiwi great McCullum to revive Test fortunes

New Zealand
Former New Zealand captain Brendon McCullum was named the coach of England s Test side on Thursday, with a brief to shake the team out of its deep malaise.

McCullum will leave his job in charge of Indian Premier League franchise Kolkata Knight Riders to take charge of a red-ball side that has fallen to bottom place in the World Test Championship after a dire run of one win in 17 matches.

Read more: Bangladesh create history, crush world champions New Zealand in one of cricket's biggest upset

Leading the revival is a sizeable task for the 40-year-old, who has never coached at first-class or Test level, but is renowned as one of the sport s most progressive thinkers and dynamic leaders.

As New Zealand skipper he set the side on the path to their current golden era -- last year they won the inaugural World Test Championship and they have reached the finals of the past two 50-over World Cups.

McCullum, who will team up with new captain Ben Stokes, saw off a strong field to earn a four-year deal, edging out candidates including former South Africa and India coach Gary Kirsten.

The hard-hitting batsman, who won 101 Test caps before retiring from international cricket in 2016, was adamant he could bolster the fortunes of an England team still reeling from a 4-0 Ashes hammering in Australia and a recent 1-0 defeat in the Caribbean.

"In taking this role on, I am acutely aware of the significant challenges the team faces at present, and I strongly believe in my ability to help the team emerge as a stronger force once we ve confronted them head-on," he said.

"I ve enjoyed several robust conversations with Rob Key (England director of cricket) about the direction of travel for the team and have found his enthusiasm contagious.

"I m no stranger to bringing about change within a team environment and I can t wait to get started.

"Ben Stokes is the perfect character to inspire change around him, and I look forward to working closely with him to build a successful unit around us."

Key added he was looking forward to seeing the New Zealander work with Stokes, who replaced long-serving skipper Joe Root last month.

Finland poised for NATO membership as Ukraine war crimps Russian gas

Ukraine russia conflict
Finland took a step Thursday towards fast-track NATO membership, triggering a blunt warning from the Kremlin, as the war in Ukraine throttled supplies of Russian gas to Europe and the number of people who fled the country passed six million.

In Geneva, the UN Human Rights Council decided to probe alleged Russian atrocities in Ukraine, in a vote overwhelmingly approved by its members but snubbed by Russia.

And in graphic new evidence of potential war crimes by Moscow s forces, CNN aired footage it said showed Russian troops shooting two unarmed civilians in the back. AFP has not independently verified the footage.

Finland s leaders declared their nation must apply to join NATO "without delay" -- a seismic change in policy since Russia invaded its neighbour in February.

"As a member of NATO, Finland would strengthen the entire defence alliance," President Sauli Niinisto and Prime Minister Sanna Marin said in a joint statement.

Kremlin spokesman Dmitry Peskov warned Russia would "definitely" see Finnish membership as a threat.

The Russian foreign ministry said Moscow would be "forced to take reciprocal steps, military-technical and other, to address the resulting threats".

In launching the invasion of Ukraine, President Vladimir Putin cited in part what he called the threat from NATO, which expanded eastwards after the Cold War.

Finland has been a declared neutral in East-West crises for decades, and as recently as January its leaders ruled out NATO membership.

Ukraine reports battlefield gains as Europe's energy worries grow

Ukraine
Ukraine on Wednesday (May 11) reported pushing back Moscow s forces in a counterattack that could signal a shift in the momentum of the war and shut gas flows on a route through Russian-held territory, raising the spectre of an energy crisis in Europe.

Ukraine s armed forces general staff said it had recaptured Pytomnyk, a village on the main highway north of the second largest city of Kharkiv, about halfway to the Russian border.

Read more: Fighting traps civilians in Ukraine plant as Putin urges defenders to disarm

"The occupying forces moved to the defence in order to slow down the pace of the offensive of our troops," it said. "The settlement of Pytomnyk ... was liberated."

Following days of advances north and east of Kharkiv, one Ukrainian military source said on condition of anonymity that Ukraine s forces were within just several kilometres of the Russian frontier by Wednesday morning.

Beforehand, Russian forces had been on the outskirts of Kharkiv, a city 40km from the frontier.

The advance appears to be the fastest that Ukraine has mounted since it drove Russian troops away from the capital Kyiv and out of northern Ukraine at the beginning of April.

If sustained, it could let Ukrainian forces threaten supply lines for Russia s main attack force, and even put rear logistics targets in Russia itself within range of artillery.

In Vilkhivka, a shattered village east of Kharkiv, the thump of near constant artillery and swoosh of multiple rocket launchers could be heard from fighting at the front.

The Kremlin calls its actions in Ukraine a "special military operation" to demilitarise a neighbour threatening its security. It denies targeting civilians.

Ukraine says it poses no threat and that the deaths of thousands of civilians and destruction of towns and cities show that Russia is waging a war of conquest.

PPP chairperson directed them to show no negligence in solving the problems of people and said that you have to solve the issues being faced by public due to the incompetence of the previous government.

Omar Sarfaraz Cheema denotified as governor Punjab

Omar Sarfaraz Cheema
Omar Sarfaraz Cheema has been denotified as Punjab governor on Tuesday hours after President Alvi’s rejection to approve Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif's summary to remove Omar Cheema from his post.

The latest situation emerged as President Arif Alvi on Monday rejected PM Shehbaz’s advice to remove Governor Punjab Cheema from office.

In a statement issued by the President's Secretariat, President Alvi has conveyed to the prime minister that the Punjab governor cannot be removed without his approval.

However, in contrast to the President’s rejection of the PM’s advice, the cabinet division issued late Monday night a notification regarding the removal of Omar Cheema as governor of Punjab.

“In terms of Article 101 and proviso to Article 48 (1) of the constitution of the Islamic Republic of Pakistan, read with serial No. 2D of schedule V-B to the Rules of Business, 1973 and the Prime Minister’s advice (s) rendered on 17-04-2022 and 01-05-2022 for removal of Governor of Punjab, Mr Omer Sarfaraz Cheema ceases to hold the office of the Governor Punjab, with immediate effect,” the notification said.

According to the notification, henceforth, the speaker of the Punjab assembly will perform his responsibilities as acting governor of Punjab till the appointment of the new governor.

According to the sources, security has also been withdrawn from Omar Cheema following his removal from the governor’s post.

Incumbent Governor Cheema has been causing problems for the PML-N in Punjab ever since he was given the post by Imran Khan during his last days in power. The governor had triggered a constitutional crisis after he refused to administer the oath to Chief Minister Punjab Hamza Shahbaz.

Hamza was finally sworn in after the Lahore High Court ordered NA Speaker Raja Pervaiz Ashraf to administer the oath.

Cheema had last week said that he would arrest CM Punjab Hamza Shehbaz Sharif if provided “a subedar and four soldiers” and had also asked Chief of Army Staff (COAS) General Qamar Javed Bajwa to play his "role" in the implementation of the Constitutional framework in Punjab.

The federal government has nominated Baligh-ur-Rehman as the new governor of Punjab.

Rehman, who hails from Bhawalpur, was elected from the NA-185 constituency in 2008 and 2013. He had earlier served as the state minister for education, interior and narcotics control when Nawaz Sharif became prime minister after the PML-N’s victory in the 2013 elections.

Omar Cheema rejects denotification orders

Cheema, meanwhile, has refused to accept the orders regarding his removal issued by the Cabinet Division.

He said President Alvi rejected the summary for his removal sent by the premier due to "exceptional circumstances" but the Cabinet Division still issued the notification for his removal.

Terming the notification “unconstitutional”, he said that he would consult legal experts and announce his strategy.

Nvidia to pay $5.5 million penalty for 'inadequate disclosures' about cryptomining

Nvidia Corporation
Nvidia Corporation (NVDA.O) has agreed to pay $5.5 million to settle civil charges that the technology firm didnot properly disclose the impact of cryptomining on its gaming business, the U.S. Securities and Exchange Commission (SEC) said.

In back-to-back quarters in fiscal 2018, Nvidia failed to disclose that cryptomining was a "significant element" of its revenue growth from sales of chips designed for gaming, the SEC said in a statement and charging order.

The firm, which did not admit or deny the SEC’s findings, agreed to pay a civil penalty of $5.5 million. A spokesperson for Santa Clara, California-based Nvidia declined to comment.

In 2018, Nvidia’s chips became popular for cryptomining, the process of obtaining crypto rewards in exchange for verifying transactions on distributed ledgers, the SEC said. The regulator alleged that Nvidia knew that information, but failed to share it with investors.

Those omissions misled investors and analysts who were interested in understanding the impact of cryptomining on Nvidia’s business, the SEC said.

As Russia readies military pomp, Ukraine blames it for deadly school attack

russia
A Russian strike on a school sheltering civilians claimed 60 lives, Ukraine said , as the G7 reaffirmed their unity with Kyiv on the eve of Moscow’s plans for a flashy World War II victory commemoration.

As intense fighting continued, Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelensky confirmed the death toll in Saturday’s Russian air strike on a school in the eastern village of Bilogorivka. That would be one of the highest one-day tolls since Russia invaded on February 24.

Russian President Vladimir Putin leads commemorations Monday of the Soviet Union’s defeat of Nazi Germany, but Ukraine, under unrelenting attack, is desperate to deny Moscow any sense of military invigoration.

Putin is expected to flaunt Russia’s military might during the symbolically important event. Huge intercontinental ballistic missiles will be towed for official review through Moscow’s Red Square, and a planned flyover will feature fighter jets in a "Z" formation showing support for the war.

The Victory Day parade is a longtime tradition in Russia, but Monday’s has taken on great prominence as Putin seeks to justify a war that has gone on far longer -- and at far higher cost -- than expected.

Putin has sought to legitimise the invasion by comparing it with the previous struggle against Nazism and the national pride it brought.

"Today, our soldiers, as their ancestors, are fighting side by side to liberate their native land from the Nazi filth with the confidence that, as in 1945, victory will be ours," Putin said.

Zelensky also marked the end of the 1939-1945 war by comparing Ukraine’s battle for national survival to the region’s war of resistance against its former Nazi occupiers.

Shehbaz Sharif orders authorities to deal with Hunza flooding

Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif
Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif on Sunday ordered the authorities concerned to take emergency steps to deal with the situation created after the flooding in the lake formed above Shisper Glacier, Hunza.

A massive glacial lake outburst flood (GLOF) occurred in Hunza district's Hassanabad village Saturday, sweeping away the Hassanabad bridge on the Karakoram Highway.

The flood disrupted the drinking and agricultural water system and affected two powerhouses together with the collapse of the Hassanabad bridge. As a result, one part of Shahrah-e-Karakoram has also been affected.

PM Shehbaz Sharif directed the authorities concerned to ensure the safe transfer of people from the flood-affected areas. He also told the federal agencies to fully assist the Gilgil Baltistan government with the supply and provision of food, medicines, and other necessities to the affectees.

The prime minister also sought a report regarding the damages as well as a list of affectees of glacial flooding and ordered the construction of a temporary bridge for people to commute after the destruction of the Hassanabad bridge on the Karakoram Highway.

Moreover, PM Shehbaz also instructed the authorities to prepare an estimate of the damages suffered by the irrigation and drinking water system and powerhouses and directed them to restore the powerhouses of 700 and 250 megawatts on a war footing basis.

He announced that the government will bear the expenses of restoring and repairing the powerhouses

PM Shehbaz expressed sympathy to the affected families over their losses and ordered the provision of immediate assistance.

Prime Minister inaugurates Saleem Memorial Trust Hospital

Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif
While addressing the inauguration ceremony, PM Shehbaz Sharif said "I believe that the generous people who have donated to establish this hospital have earned [a place in] heaven in this world and in the hereafter."

He said that this hospital will serve the aggrieved. He said that the machinery, equipment for radiology, oncology, treatment for cardiac diseases and all other arrangements at the hospital are world class.

He thanked all the doctors who have come from Pakistan and abroad to serve under the hospital.

The premier said that those who can afford the treatment would pay the entire expense for the medical facilities at the hospital and people in need would be given free or partly free of cost treatment through cross subsidy or donation funds.

PM Shehbaz Sharif said that the PML-N had established Pakistan Kidney and Liver Institute (PKLI) following the same anology and invested billions of rupees in the project.

He said that when he inaugurated the PKLI in May 2018, five transplant surgeries had already been performed at the hospital.

PM Shehbaz Sharif said that PML-N government brought doctors and experts from all over the world for PKLI but all of them were chased away when the government changed.

"Tens of thousands of families should have benefited from the PKLI but "dirty politics kept this project in the cold room (morgue) for two years and brought it to a grinding halt," he said.

PM Shehbaz Sharif said that the donations and funds are the money of the poor.

"This is the money of this poor nation and we have to think for the nation beyond personal interests to serve them."

While concluding his speech, the premier requested Mian Mansha to establish one such hospital each for four provinces of Pakistan. He said the 220 million population of Pakistan would remember him till the end if he opens the gates of his treasures in their service.

Putin to send 'doomsday' warning to West at Russia's WW2 victory parade

Putin to send 'doomsday' warning to West at Russia's WW2 victory parade
Putin to send 'doomsday' warning to West at Russia's WW2 victory paradePresident Vladimir Putin will send a "doomsday" warning to the West when he leads celebrations on Monday marking the 77th anniversary of the Soviet Union's victory over Nazi Germany, brandishing Russia's vast firepower while its forces fight on in Ukraine.

Defiant in the face of deep Western isolation since he ordered the invasion of Russia's neighbour, Putin will speak on Red Square before a parade of troops, tanks, rockets and intercontinental ballistic missiles.

A fly-past over St Basil's Cathedral will include supersonic fighters, Tu-160 strategic bombers and, for the first time since 2010, the Il-80 "doomsday" command plane, which would carry Russia's top brass in the event of a nuclear war, the Defence Ministry said.

In that scenario, the Il-80 is designed to become the roaming command centre for the Russian president. It is packed with technology but specific details are Russian state secrets.

The 69-year-old Kremlin leader has repeatedly likened the war in Ukraine to the challenge the Soviet Union faced when Adolf Hitler's Nazis invaded in 1941.

"The attempt to appease the aggressor on the eve of the Great Patriotic War turned out to be a mistake that cost our people dearly," Putin said on Feb. 24 when he announced what he called a special military operation in Ukraine.

"We will not make such a mistake a second time, we have no right."

Putin casts the war in Ukraine as a battle to protect Russian speakers there from persecution by Nazis and to guard against what he terms the US threat to Russia posed by NATO enlargement. Ukraine and the West dismiss the fascism claim as nonsense and say Putin is waging an unprovoked war of aggression.

The Soviet Union lost 27 million people in World War Two, more than any other country, and Putin has railed in recent years at what Moscow sees as attempts in the West to revise the history of the war to belittle the Soviet victory.

Beside the 1812 defeat of French Emperor Napoleon Bonaparte, the defeat of Nazi Germany is the Russians' most revered military triumph, though both catastrophic invasions from the west left Russia deeply sensitive about its borders.

The war in Ukraine will cast a long shadow over this Victory Day.

Russia's invasion has killed thousands of people and displaced nearly 10 million. It has also left Russia in the grip of tough Western sanctions, and has raised fears of a wider confrontation between Russia and the United States - by far the world's biggest nuclear powers.

Although 11,000 troops marching across Red Square along with what the Defence Ministry has said will be 131 pieces of military hardware will present a grand spectacle, the Ukraine conflict has exposed weaknesses in Russia's armed forces despite Putin's attempt in his two decades in power to halt the post-Soviet decline.

The Kremlin has been denied a quick victory and the Russian economy - squeezed hard by sanctions - is facing the worst contraction since the years following the fall of the Soviet Union.

Less than two decades ago, US President George W. Bush joined Putin for the May 9 celebrations in Moscow. This year no Western leader was invited, the Kremlin said.

The United States and its allies have ramped up supplies of weapons to Ukraine and Putin has faced calls from some in the Russian military to unleash greater firepower on Ukraine, two sources close to the armed forces told Reuters. Moscow has told the West that its arms supplies are legitimate targets.

Ahead of May 9, speculation swirled across Moscow and Western capitals that Putin was preparing some sort of special announcement on Ukraine, perhaps an outright declaration of war or even a national mobilisation.

Kremlin spokesman Dmitry Peskov dismissed those suggestions on Wednesday, describing them as "nonsense".

The Kremlin did not respond to requests for comment on what Putin might say in his speech, to be delivered from the Red Square tribune in front of Vladimir Lenin's Mausoleum.

Last year, Putin jabbed at Western exceptionalism and what he said was the rise of neo-Nazism and Russophobia - trends he has returned to again and again when addressing the issue of Ukraine.

Thousands of Sikhs attend parade in Italy ahead of Khalistan referendum

Thousands of Sikhs attend parade in Italy ahead of Khalistan referendum
Thousands of Sikhs from across the European Union (EU) gathered in Italian city of Brescia to take part in the EU phase in global Khalistan referendum for secession of Punjab from India.

International Sikh advocacy group Sikhs For Justice (SFJ) has been organising Khalistan Referendum movement and has brought out thousands of Sikhs in the UK, Geneva and now in Italy.

The Khalistan referendum voting will take place on Sunday at Brixia Forum, Via Caprera, 5 25125 Brescia (BS) but Sikhs took part in the historic Nagarkirtan Parade to celebrate the Vaisakhi festival and to demand an independent state of Khalistan for millions of Sikhs.

Sikhs For Justice said that Italy is home to more than 200,000 Sikhs who are a vibrant part of the Italian community and that’s the reason this city was chosen for the parade and the referendum.

Gurpatwant Singh Pannun, Attorney at Law (NY) General Counsel to SFJ, said the enthusiastic participation of Sikhs in the Nagarkirtan Parade showed the desire and demand of Sikhs for separation from Indian occupation in order to live in the free land of Khalistan where Sikhs will live under the teachings of their gurus.

Dr Bakhshish Singh Sandhu, President Council of Khalistan, Washington DC said that “under international law and UN Charter, Sikhs have a clear case for the right to self-determination on the grounds that they have a distinct and separate religious identity and language and have been subjected to genocide by India since 1984."

Under Prime Minister Modi, persecution of Sikhs for supporting the Khalistan referendum campaign has increased as hundreds have been charged, detained and tortured under colonial-era sedition laws.

Dupinderjit Singh, Sikhs For Justice UK’s Coordinator stated: “Khalistan referendum is a lawful and democratic campaign as a use of ballot is the most legitimate and peaceful method to ascertain the will of the people on a political question”. Under UN Charter and Universal Declaration of Human Rights, Sikh people have a right to express their will through a referendum on the question of the continued and future association of Punjab with India.”
