Nigeria election 2019: Atiku Abubakar challenges Muhammadu Buhari

The main challenger to President Muhammadu Buhari, 76, is the former vice president, Atiku Abubakar, 72.
Votes are being counted in Nigeria's closely-fought general election, with voting hours extended in some places following delays in the morning.

The main challenger to President Muhammadu Buhari, 76, is the former vice president, Atiku Abubakar, 72.

Whoever wins will have to address power shortages, corruption, security threats, and a sluggish economy.

The election had been due to take place a week ago but was delayed at the last minute for logistical reasons.

President Buhari cast his ballot in his hometown of Daura in the northern state of Katsina. Asked if he would congratulate his rival if he lost, he said: "I will congratulate myself."

About two hours before polls were due to open on Saturday, residents of the town of Maiduguri, the capital of Borno state in the country's north-east reported hearing several blasts and gunfire.

State police said in a statement that there was no threat to public safety. "The gunfire were not targeted at members of the public but was for security purposes," the statement said.

Borno is the birthplace of the Islamist militant group Boko Haram, which had said it planned to disrupt the elections.

In the north-eastern state of Yobe, suspected Islamist militants attacked the town of Geidam, forcing people to flee, the Reuters news agency reported.

Why was the election delayed?

The initial vote was rescheduled in a dramatic press conference in the early hours of Saturday 16 February, just five hours before polls were due to have opened.

The Independent National Electoral Commission (Inec) has given several reasons for the delay, including attempted sabotage and logistical issues such as bad weather and problems with delivering the ballot papers.

Inec has said that everything is in place for the poll to take place this time round.

The candidate with the most votes is declared the winner in the first round, as long as that person gains at least 25% of the votes in two-thirds of Nigeria's 36 states.

There are 73 registered candidates in the presidential election, but campaigning has been dominated by the two political giants and the established party machines behind them.

The president's All Progressives Congress (APC) has promised to take the country to the "next level", arguing that in his first four-year term Mr Buhari has done a lot of "foundational work" that may not be immediately obvious.

Mr Abubakar and his People's Democratic Party have pledged "to get Nigeria working again", saying that the president has wasted the last four years.

Both men are from the mainly Muslim north of the country. While they are in their 70s, more than half of Nigeria's 84 million registered voters are under 35.

Nigeria is Africa's largest oil producer but corruption and a failure to invest the proceeds from the industry have hampered development in the country.

It slipped into a recession in 2016 and a slow recovery has meant that not enough jobs have been created to cope with the large number of young people coming into the employment market. Currently nearly a quarter of the working age population is unemployed.

Mr Buhari has quelled a militant Islamist rebellion in the north-east of the country, but Boko Haram remains active. There has also been an upsurge in violence in the country's Middle Belt as traditional herders and more settled farmers have clashed.

Up until 1999 Nigeria was governed by either short-lived civilian administrations or military rulers. But this year marks 20 years since the return of democracy.

Mr Buhari was elected in 2015 - the first time an opposition candidate had defeated an incumbent to become president.

Virat Kohli s' diplomatic statement about World Cup match against Pakistan

Captain of Indian Cricket Team Virat Kohli
India’s cricket team were “shocked” by the recent attack in occupied Kashmir and will follow the nation’s lead on whether to boycott a World Cup match against Pakistan in June, captain Virat Kohli has said.

The Indian cricket board (BCCI) has written to the game’s global governing body to urge the cricket community to sever ties with any nation from where “terrorism emanates”.

Angry fans, meanwhile, have demanded a boycott of the June 16 group match against Pakistan at the World Cup in England and Wales.

The BCCI said it would make a call on a boycott after consultation with the government, and Kohli said his team would respect their decision.

“The Indian team and the whole set-up was shocked with what happened and are really sad with what happened,” he told a media conference ahead of a T20 match against Australia in Visakhapatnam.

“Our stand is simple: we stick by what the nation wants to do and what the BCCI decides to do.

“That is basically our opinion. Whatever the government and the board decide, we will go by that and we will respect that.”

India and Pakistan have not hosted a cricket series between the countries since 2013 due to political tensions.

Former India players are polarised on whether the team should boycott the World Cup match, which is scheduled to take place in Manchester.

Batting great Sachin Tendulkar said he wanted India to stretch their unbeaten World Cup record against Pakistan rather than forfeit the match but added that he would back whatever “the country decides”.

Big change in Saudi s' foreign policy: first woman envoy to Washington

Princess Rima bint Bandar
Saudi Arabia on Saturday named a princess as its first woman ambassador to the United States, a key appointment as the fallout over journalist Jamal Khashoggi's murder tests relations between the allies.

Princess Rima bint Bandar replaced Prince Khalid bin Salman, the younger brother of the powerful crown prince who was appointed vice defence minister in a flurry of late-night royal decrees announced on state media.

The reshuffle comes as Saudi Arabia seeks to quell an international outcry over Khashoggi's murder last October in the Saudi consulate in Istanbul, which strained relations with its key ally Washington.

After initially denying they knew anything of Khashoggi's disappearance, the kingdom finally acknowledged that Saudi agents killed him inside the consulate, but described it as a rogue operation.

Princess Rima faces hostile US lawmakers who have threatened to take tough action against Saudi Arabia over the brutal killing amid claims that Crown Prince Mohammed bin Salman — the de-facto ruler who also serves as the defence minister — was personally responsible.

The Saudi government has denied he had anything to do with the murder of Khashoggi, a royal insider-turned-critic who was a columnist with the Washington Post.

"The appointment of a new envoy signifies an attempt by Riyadh to try and re-set relations with Washington and draw a line under the Khashoggi affair, however unlikely that may be in practice, at least with Congress," Kristian Ulrichsen, a fellow at Rice University's Baker Institute in the United States, told AFP.

Princess Rima, the daughter of a former long-time ambassador to the United States, has been a leading advocate of female empowerment in the kingdom, which has long faced criticism over its treatment of women.

The princess previously worked at the kingdom's General Sports Authority, where she led a campaign to increase women´s participation in sports.

10,000 Indian soldiers deployed in occupied Kashmir as crackdown continues

More than 10,000 Indian soldiers were deployed in occupied Kashmir
More than 10,000 Indian soldiers were deployed in occupied Kashmir on Saturday as crackdown continued in the valley, Kashmir Media Service reported.

An additional 100 companies, around 10,000 soldiers started arriving in the occupied valley, a day after India ordered the reinforcements.

The occupying forces have launched a massive crackdown arresting over 200 pro-freedom people including Jammu and Kashmir Liberation Front (JKLF) Chairman Yasin Malik and Jamaat-e-Islami (JeI) Ameer Dr Abdul Hameed Fayaz.

Malik was arrested after a raid at his Maisuma residence in overnight raids in Srinagar.

A complete shutdown is being observed in parts of Srinagar and in Bandipora town today, against the arrest and killing spree in the occupied territory.

The Joint Resistance Leadership (JRL) in its statement called for a strike in the valley against India’s arbitrary measures including mass arrests, nocturnal raids, killings and attempts to repeal hereditary laws.

Chairman of All Parties Hurriyat Conference, Syed Ali Gilani, in a statement, said the unrealistic attitude of Indian leadership had created death and destruction in the territory.

The targeted onslaughts against Kashmiris in India continue unabated as three more Kashmiri youth were attacked by Hindu fanatics in New Delhi while a journalist was beaten up in Pune.

Massive protests erupted in Lal Chowk area of Islamabad town against attacks on the Kashmiris in India.

The situation in occupied Kashmir has worsened in the aftermath of the February 14, Pulwama attack which killed at least 40 Indian soldiers.

Two killed, injured three after minibus hits landmine near east Ukraine’s Donetsk

Minibus hit a landmine while crossing the border between Ukraine and breakaway Donetsk region
A minibus hit a landmine while crossing the border between Ukraine and the breakaway Donetsk region on Saturday.

The killing of two civilians and injuring a third, local authorities and witnesses said.

The bus, carrying three people, hit the mine after swerving off road in the buffer zone between two border posts, a statement on the breakaway Donetsk People’s Republic official website read.

The driver was killed along with one passenger.

The other passenger, a 61-year-old man, was being treated in hospital.

He told a Reuters journalist that the passenger who was killed was his mother.

The incident occurred near the village of Yelenovka, outside Donetsk.

The passengers were returning to the rebel-controlled region after collecting their pensions, the statement said.

Fighting broke out in 2014 between separatist forces in eastern Ukraine backed by Moscow and forces loyal to the pro-Western Ukrainian government in Kiev.

Despite an internationally brokered ceasefire that ended major fighting in 2015, deadly flare-ups of fighting occur regularly.

The unresolved conflict will be an issue when Ukraine holds a presidential election in late March.

Ronchi masterfully carries Islamabad to victory over Karachi

Ronchi masterfully carries Islamabad to victory over Karachi
Opener Luke Ronchi scripted a comfortable seven wickets win for the Islamabad United against Karachi Kings in the second Pakistan Super League (PSL) fixture at the Sharjah Cricket Ground.

The hot-in-form Ronchi scored 67 off 35 with eight boundaries and three sixes on 191.42 strike rate, neurtralising the Kings' pace attack led by Muhammad Aamir and Usman Shinwari.

The only brief relief to the Kings was provided by skipper Imad Wasim, who dismissed Sahibzada Farhan and Hussain Talat in his over. Igniting chance of a comeback which was swiftly quashed by Ronchi's onslaught.

Samit Patel assisted the team with his valuable 44 runs innings.

Ben Dunk and Aamir Yameen's death over slogging gave a saving grace to the Imad Wasim-led Karachi Kings by taking the team to 143 runs after a shambolic batting collapse against Islamabad United.

Dunk scored 49 off 32 balls with two boundaries on 153.12 strike rate, while Aamir Yameen played a knock of 39 off 20 with three boundaries and two sixes.

Opener Babar Azam scored 27 off 21 with 4 boundaries in an innings dominated by spectacular bowling display of Faheem Ashraf who picked three wickets off 26 runs.

Meanwhile, for Kings, youngster Muhammad Musa and Rumman Raees picked one wicket each.

Imad Wasim-led Kings currently sit at the bottom of the points table after having accumulated just two points from three games, while United have four points from four games.

The Kings who had kicked off their PSL campaign on a winning note against Multan Sultans lost their next game by 22 runs to Lahore Qalandars, and then by 44 runs to last year's runner-up Peshawar Zalmi.

United also started the tournament with a five-wicket against Qalandars but lost their next game to Sultans by five wickets, followed by a seven-wicket thumping at the hands of Quetta Gladiators. The Mohammad Sami-led team, however, changed things around and beat Zalmi by 12 runs.

With Mohammad Amir leading the bowling attack for Kings and Umer Khan in the midst, Karachi will defiantly have plenty to work with.

Germany boosts support for tackling DR Congo Ebola outbreak

Thousands of health and frontline workers have received Ebola vaccinations
Germany is one of the largest government donors for the fight against the deadly Ebola virus in Africa. An outbreak in DR Congo has led to the deaths of nearly 500 people since last August.

Germany, Japan and Australia have increased their support against an Ebola outbreak in the Democratic Republic of Congo.

The three countries will provide an additional $20 million (€17.6 million) to the World Health Organization and the UN children's fund UNICEF. Half the sum will be used for an emergency response to the deadly haemorrhagic virus.

"The world community has learned from the last Ebola epidemic in West Africa. We need to act swiftly and effectively against this devastating disease," German Development Minister Gerd Müller said on Saturday.

In 2014 and 2015, an Ebola outbreak in West Africa killed more than 11,000 people. The outbreak was contained following a sustained international response.

Difficult to contain

Since August, about 800 people have been infected and nearly 500 died from Ebola in the conflict-wracked North Kivu region which borders Uganda and Rwanda.

Some 80,000 people, including thousands of health and frontline workers, have been given an experimental Ebola vaccine.

Earlier this week, Congo's Healthy Ministry declared that there had been "major progress" in containing the outbreak in the badly affected town of Beni.

But on Friday it announced the first new infection there in 23 days. Beni is still at risk from the neighboring areas of Katwa and Butembo, where dozens of new cases have emerged this month.

An epidemic is considered over when a country has not recorded any new case for 42 consecutive days.

The response to the Ebola outbreak has been hampered by insecurity in a region with a plethora of rebel groups, fear and mistrust in communities and false rumors about the virus.

Germany one of largest donors

Germany is one of the biggest donor countries, providing €75 million ($85 million) over five years to the World Bank's Pandemic Emergency Financing Facility. It also one of the largest government donors for the vaccine alliance GAVI, which provides vaccines against Ebola in the Congo.

Toxic alcohol kills 84 in India, hundreds hospitalised: officials

Toxic alcohol kills 84 in India, hundreds hospitalised: officials
Eight four workers have died and at least 200 others have been hospitalised in northeastern India after drinking toxic liquor, officials said Saturday, in the latest case of alcohol poisoning in the country.

The deaths in Assam state came less than two weeks after tainted liquor killed about 100 people in the northern states of Uttar Pradesh and Uttarakhand.

"We have recorded the death of 50 persons in Golaghat since Thursday night," Dhiren Hazarika, deputy commissioner of Golaghat district in Assam, told AFP.

Another official from the neighbouring district of Jorhat said that 19 people had died there after consuming a batch of "spurious liquor".

The victims, who include many women, worked at local tea estates in the region.

"The people came to the hospital with severe vomiting, extreme chest pain and breathlessness," doctor Ratul Bordoloi, joint director of Golaghat´s health department, told AFP.

Assam Chief Minister Sarbananda Sonowal has ordered an inquiry.

State police said they have arrested one man for selling the liquor, and authorities said two excise department officials were suspended for failing to take adequate precautions over the sale of the alcohol.

Assam health minister Himanta Biswa Sarma told AFP that the patients were being treated at different hospitals in the affected districts.

Hundreds of mainly poor people die each year in the South Asian country from tainted liquor, which normally costs just a few US cents a bottle.

Of the estimated five billion litres of alcohol drunk every year in India, around 40 percent is illegally produced, according to the International Spirits and Wine Association of India.

Many Indian states have implemented or pushed for prohibition, which, according to critics, further increases the unsupervised manufacture and sale of alcohol.

Venezuela soldiers abandon posts at Colombia border

Two of the Venezuelan soldiers who crossed into Colombia are seen being detained
Soldiers from the Venezuelan national guard have left their posts ahead of an opposition-led effort to bring aid into the country, Colombia's migration agency said.

In a separate development, Venezuelan troops have fired tear gas at people looking to cross into Colombia to work.

Tensions have been rising over a row about the delivery of humanitarian aid.

President Nicolás Maduro said the border with Colombia is partly closed to stop aid being delivered.

But self-declared interim president Juan Guaidó has vowed that hundreds of thousands of volunteers will help bring in the aid deliveries, which include food and medicine, on Saturday.

Local media report people jumping the barricades to cross the border at the Venezuela-Colombia border, while opposition MPs have posted defiant messages on social media denouncing the use of force.

The BBC's Orla Guerin, on the Colombia border, said Venezuelans were begging soldiers to be allowed to cross.

Pictures show protesters burning outposts and throwing rocks at soldiers and riot police in border areas.

Reporters at the scene have announced Mr Guaidó's arrival at the Tienditas bridge on the Colombian side of the border. He was accompanied by the country's president, Iván Duque.

Mr Guaidó urged the military to allow aid trucks to enter, calling on them to "put themselves on the side of the people".

He confirmed that "various members" of the national guard had left their posts at the Simon Bolivar International Bridge to oversee the humanitarian aid delivery.

Those who do not allow aid to pass are "deserters" who "betray" the Venezuelan people, he added.

Three have abandoned post at this bridge, while another did so at the Paula Santander International Bridge in Ureña, in the south west of the country.

"We want to work!" people chanted as they faced riot police at the Ureña border bridge.

Activists there were joined by 300 members of the "Women in White" opposition group who marched in defiance of Mr Maduro's attempts to close the border.

Meanwhile, a top ally of President Maduro has suggested the government would allow Venezuelans to accept aid "at their own risk", but that no foreign soldiers would "set foot" inside Venezuela.

Earlier on Saturday, two people were killed by Venezuelan forces near the border with Brazil.

R. Kelly Turns Himself In To Chicago Police After Being Charged With Sexual Abuse

R. Kelly is escorted by police in custody at the Chicago Police Department's Central District Friday night.
R. Kelly has been charged with 10 counts of aggravated sexual abuse involving four alleged victims and has now turned himself in to police in Chicago.

According to CNN, the R&B star - real name Robert Kelly - was placed in handcuffs as he entered the police station on Friday night.

Kim Foxx, State Attorney for Cook County, Illinois, announced the charges - which involve four victims - on Friday.

They are said to have taken place between 1998 and 2010 with the BBC reporting that at least three of the victims were aged between 13 and 16 at the time of their alleged assaults.

Foxx did not comment on the charges against the 52-year-old Grammy winner and did not take questions from reporters.

An arrest warrant was issued, leading to Kelly handing himself in - lawyer Steve Greenberg explained that the singer is 'shell-shocked' by the allegations.

Greenberg told the Associated Press that his client was 'extraordinarily disappointed and depressed' by the charges and maintains his innocence.

He told CNN: "I think all the women are lying. Mr Kelly is strong, he's got a lot of support and he's going to be vindicated on all these charges - one by one if it has to be."

If convicted, Kim Foxx said that Kelly could face a maximum of seven years in prison on each count and a no-bail arrest warrant has been issued.

According to CNN, the new allegations came after attorney Michael Avenatti announced that he had handed a videotape to the State's Attorney's Office, which he said showed Kelly having sex with an underage girl.

The lawyer claimed that the 40-minute tape shows him engaging in sexual intercourse and other sexual acts with a girl. He also alleged that both Kelly and the girl reference her age in the tape.

When Mr Greenberg was asked about the tape it was explained that he and his colleagues were unaware of any new information involving his client, adding: "We'll deal with it in court".

R. Kelly has faced accusations previously, denying them all.

These latest allegations follow the recent release of six-part docuseries Surviving R. Kelly, which explored the sexual abuse allegations against the 'Ignition' singer.

Shortly after the program aired on American TV, Kelly was dropped by his record label.

Regional peace: DG ISPR suggests Indian chief should follow Gen Bajwa's vision

Maj Gen Asif Ghafoor calls on India
Maj Gen Asif Ghafoor, taking a dig on Indian Army Chief Gen Bipin Rawat's comments that he 'follows' his Pakistani counterpart Gen Qamar Bajwa, suggested on Saturday that it would be "even better if he [Rawat] follows Gen Bajwa’s vision for regional peace, stability and progress".

Ghafoor, the director general of Inter-Services Public Relations (ISPR), shared on Twitter a video clip of Rawat's interview, in which the Indian army chief is asked about his "views" on Gen Bajwa. "I follow him very well. I follow him in whatever he says," replies Gen Rawat.

"I keep taking up feedback on him. I follow where he goes. I know where he visits [...] I do follow him [...] and he is the chief of the Pakistan Army so I have to follow him."

"Indian COAS says that he follows Pakistan Army Chief. Even better would be if he follows General Bajwa’s vision for regional peace, stability and progress," said Major Gen Ghafoor in his tweet.

"For that India has to unfollow enmity with Pakistan," he added, using wordplay with the social media term 'unfollow' that refers to unsubscribing from an account.

A day earlier, the ISPR DG held a press conference in Rawalpindi, during which he reiterated Prime Minister Imran Khan's proposal of talks to Delhi.

Pakistan and India's relations have been tense since the Pulwama attack on February 14, with the latter blaming the former of being complicit in the attack — a charge Islamabad has denied from the get-go.

Delhi also announced that it would launch a diplomatic offensive to isolate Pakistan in the international community.

Peshawar: 77 suspected ice dealers arrested

Scores of suspected drug peddlers pictured after their arrest by Peshawar police on February 23, 2019.
Peshawar police in a crackdown on Saturday arrested 77 suspected drug dealers who allegedly peddled 'ice' (slang for addictive drug crystal methamphetamine) in the vicinity of educational institutions, police officials said.

SSP Operations Zahoor Afridi, in a press conference, said that of those detained, nine had been arrested from near Abasyn University, Paharipura police station, Government College chowk and Faqirabad police station in Peshawar.

Several others were arrested from areas falling within the jurisdiction of Khazana and Hayatabad police stations, he added.

"Six kilogrammes of 'ice' was recovered from them," said SSP Afridi, adding that the merchandise was valued in millions.

"The trouble is that these dealers that we have arrested now have already been arrested on multiple occasions in the past," the police official said, highlighting the need for robust legislation that could prevent their release.

In August last year, Peshawar police had launched a crackdown on crystal meth in the provincial capital. They had also complained that a lack of legislation against the party drug leads to the easy acquittal of its dealers, who would then resume their activities.

SSP Operations Javed Iqbal had said that the police wrote to the provincial government for legislation against crystal meth, and that a law was being drafted to criminalise its sale and use.

Fire at government-run airshow in India destroys hundreds of cars

Smoke billows past a row of parked planes after a fire broke out in a parking lot during the Aero India show at the Yelahanka Air Force Station in Bengaluru, India, February 23, 2019.
A fire at an airshow in India destroyed three hundred cars on Saturday, a senior fire official said, the latest accident to mar the government-run event.

The most likely cause was a “dry grass fire aided by heavy winds”, said M N Reddi, a fire official in the southern city of Bengaluru where the show is taking place. There were no reports of casualties, he added in a tweet.

Footage from Reuters partner ANI showed rows of burnt-out cars and huge flames and plumes of black smoke.

The Aero India show, run by the country’s defence ministry, aims to become one of the world’s premier aerospace events, but has been troubled by accidents this year.

On Tuesday, two Indian Air Force planes collided in mid-air while rehearsing an aerobatic show, killing one pilot and injuring two others.

A spokesperson for India’s defence ministry did not respond to a request for comment.

Troops fight off Boko Haram in NE Nigeria before polls

A voter prepares to place his ballots in boxes at a polling station in a IDP camp in Maiduguri on February 23, 2019 as Nigerians began voting for a new president after a week-long delay that has raised political tempers, sparked conspiracy claims and stoked fears of violence.
One soldier was killed and 20 others were injured in a Boko Haram rocket attack in northeast Nigeria, security sources said on Saturday, just hours before elections began.

A civilian militia source in the Borno state capital, Maiduguri, told AFP "at least 13” blasts were heard throughout the city at about 6:00am (0500 GMT).

Residents also confirmed hearing the explosions while one of two security sources said: "Boko Haram terrorists attempted to enter the city but were intercepted.

"They resorted to firing RPGs (rocket-propelled grenades) on the city. Attempts have been made to locate the source of the firing."

The second source added that one of the explosions happened at the headquarters of the Nigerian Army 7th Division as troops prepared to go out on operations.

"One soldier was killed and 20 were injured. There were other explosions at Maimalari barracks but there was no casualty," he added.

"Troops are out searching for the location of the firing."

Three of the mortars fell in an open rice field in the Teachers Village camp for people displaced by the conflict. But there were no immediate reports of casualties.

A fighter jet was seen flying over the city in the search for the source of the attacks.

There was no official comment from the military but Borno police commissioner Damian Chukwu denied any attack.

There was "no threat to public peace and order", he said.

"The gunfire was not targeted at members of the public but was for security purpose," he added.

Fears of a major Boko Haram attack have been growing in the run-up to elections, which the jihadists have previously vowed to disrupt.

Maiduguri is the birthplace of Boko Haram Islamists and has been repeatedly attacked during their nearly 10-year insurgency that has devastated the remote region.

Voting began from 0700 GMT, with President Muhammadu Buhari, a former army general who has vowed to defeat the jihadists, seeking a second term.

Security sources meanwhile reported clashes between the military and suspected Boko Haram fighters in Auno, on the border of Borno state with neighbouring Yobe.

An attack in the town of Geidam, north of the Yobe state capital Damaturu, also forced residents to flee, they added.

The early morning explosions in Maiduguri come after a Boko Haram attack late on Friday on Zabarmari village, 10 kilometres (six miles) outside the city.

Boko Haram's insurgency in northeast Nigeria has killed more than 27,000 people and left 1.8 million homeless, creating a humanitarian crisis.

But the government and military have repeatedly said the jihadists are weakened to the point of defeat, despite persistent hit-and-run raids and suicide bomb attacks.

Recent months have seen an increase in attacks against troops, blamed on or claimed by Boko Haram's Islamic State West Africa Province (ISWAP) faction.

The IS-backed group is known to operate in northern Yobe state and around the border with Borno state.

Zardari wants proceedings of a case against him to be held in Karachi while Pakistan Muslim League-Nawaz wants the proceedings of cases against their leaders to be conducted in Lahore. There must be some reason behind this,” he said.

Responding to a question, Rasheed said, he does not have any opponent in Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaaf (PTI). “Imran Khan is my brother and PTI members are children.”

In response to another question about the recent tension between Pakistan and India following the Pulwama attack, the railways minister said, “Modi is trying to fight a war after losing election in four states.”

“He [Modi] has created a 70 per cent chance of war,” he said. “If India prompts Pakistan, a fierce response will be given.”

About the railways, he shared all land owned by Pakistan Railways is being computerised.

“We cut down on our expenses and earned Rs2.4billion. The department has decided to launch two new trains,” he said. “Jinnah Express will run nonstop between Lahore and Karachi.

NAB obtains documents to property, vehicle during raid at Siraj Durrani's residence

Sindh Assembly Speaker Agha Siraj Durrani
The National Accountability Bureau (NAB) obtained important documents pertaining to properties and vehicles during a seven-hour raid at Sindh Assembly Speaker Agha Siraj Durrani's residence in Karachi earlier this week, sources in the accountability watchdog said on Saturday.

NAB officials raided the Pakistan Peoples Party (PPP) leaders house in Karachi's Defence on Wednesday shortly after he was arrested from a private hotel in Islamabad in cases pertaining to corruption.

"Important documents pertaining to houses, properties and vehicles were obtained during the raid," NAB sources said.

"A memo was made of all items seized from Durrani's house," they added.

"We made a memo of the seized items in front of Durrani's family and got his daughter to sign it," the sources continued.

The NAB sources further refuted reports that they used force to make Durrani's daughter sign the memo or harassed his family.

A list of all the items seized during the raid will be presented in court, the sources stated.

"Durrani's investigation is ongoing in a positive direction," they further said.

NASA greenlights SpaceX crew capsule test to International Space Station

In this file photo taken on Jan 29, 2019 and obtained from Nasa shows the SpaceX Falcon 9 rocket with the company’s Crew Dragon attached, rolling out of the company’s hangar at Nasa Kennedy Space Center’s Launch Complex 39A.
NASA on Friday gave SpaceX the green light to test a new crew capsule by first sending an unmanned craft with a life-sized mannequin to the International Space Station (ISS).

“We're go for launch, we're go for docking,” said William Gerstenmaier, the associate administrator with Nasa Human Exploration and Operations.

A Falcon 9 rocket from the private US-based SpaceX is scheduled to lift off, weather permitting, on March 2 to take the Crew Dragon test capsule to the ISS.

Nasa signed contracts in 2014 with SpaceX and Boeing for the companies to shuttle US astronauts to the ISS.

This will be the first time the US space agency lets a private-sector company transport their astronauts.

Nasa ended its space-shuttle programme in 2011 and since then has relied on buying spots on Russian Soyuz rockets to send US astronauts to the orbiting ISS.

“This is an absolutely critical first step that we do as we move towards returning the crewed launch capability back here to the US,” said Gerstenmaier, speaking at a press conference in Cape Canaveral, Florida.

The March 2 flight will be identical to a flight that is set to take two astronauts to the ISS later in the year, possibly in July.

The Crew Dragon capsule has seven seats. It should dock with the ISS on March 3, then detach and return to Earth on March 8.

“I guarantee everything will not work exactly right, and that's cool, that's exactly what we want to do,” said Gerstenmaier.

“We want to maximise our learning so when... we're ready to go do a real crewed mission, and it'll be the right safety for our crews.”

SpaceX has already made more than a dozen unmanned trips since 2012 carrying supplies to the ISS with the cargo version of the Dragon capsule.

But the safety criteria for manned flights are higher, and Nasa said that the Crew Dragon still has some problems, including with its parachutes.

“It's a really big deal for SpaceX,” said Hans Koenigsmann, vice president of the company founded by billionaire Elon Musk.

Man and woman killed for 'honour' on jirga's orders in Karachi
A 25-year-old man and a woman were killed on the orders of a Jirga in the name of ‘honour’, police said on Saturday.

The bodies of the two were found from Hub in the jurisdiction of the Surjani Police Station three days ago, officials added.

The bodies bore marks of torture and their throats were slashed, officials added.

Police identified the man as Naseeb Zar Khan, 25, and the woman as Bibi Dakhtar.

They both belonged to Khyber Pakhtunkhwa and lived in the same locality, officials said.

“The two were killed after proper planning,” officials said and added that the woman’s parents are missing.

A case which included clauses of murder and ‘karo kari’ has been registered on the state’s complaint.

The first information report (FIR) states that the man was reported as missing in July while the woman was reported missing in August.

“When they were reported missing, a jirga was called which ordered that the couple be killed,” police added.

Further investigation into the incident is under way, they further said.

SC will hear review petition on Sharif-owned sugar mills on Monday

The Supreme Court of Pakistan
The Supreme Court on Saturday fixed February 25 as the date for the hearing of a review petition on Sharif family-owned sugar mills.

A new bench of the top court has been formed to hear the review petition.

A three-judge bench comprising Justice Azmat Saeed, Justice Amir Ata Bandial and Justice Qazi Faez Isa will hear the petition on Monday.

The Sharif family had moved the Supreme Court against the Lahore High Court's (LHC) September 2017 decision ordering the shifting of their sugar mills out of South Punjab.

In September 2017, the LHC had ordered the mills, owned by members of former prime minister Nawaz Sharif and his brother Punjab Chief Minister Shehbaz Sharif's family, to move out of South Punjab.

The bench, headed by LHC Chief Justice Mansoor Ali Shah, ordered that the Ittefaq, Haseeb Waqas and Chaudhry sugar mills be moved back within three months.

Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf leader Jahangir Tareen, a South Punjab-based businessman, had taken the Sharifs to LHC over the illegal shifting of their sugar mills to South Punjab despite a ban.

Bengaluru's Karachi Bakery forced to cover signboard after protest

Karachi Bakery in India
A mob in Bengaluru gathered outside an outlet of 'Karachi Bakery' and forced it to cover up the 'Karachi' part in its signboard in the consequences of the Pulwama attack.

The mob gathered outside the bakery located in Indrinagar, Bengaluru thinking it was owned by a Pakistani company and demanded that the Karachi part on the signboard be covered.

Indian journalist Nagarjun Dwarakanath tweeted pictures of the protest and wrote: Protesters thronged Karachi Bakery in Indiranagar, Bangalore and demanded that Karachi part on sign board must be covered because of Pulwama attack. Protesters thought bakery was owned by a Pakistani company.

Bengaluru police confirmed they received a distress call from the bakery late Friday night.

The already sour relations between India and Pakistan have worsened as New Delhi piled blame on Islamabad for the Pulwama attack in which at least 40 Indian paramilitaries were killed. Pakistan's leadership has strongly refuted the allegations.

India's Supreme Court on Friday ordered bolstered protection for Kashmiris who have faced a violent backlash in the aftermath of the attack.

Toxic alcohol kills 69 in India, hundreds hospitalised

Toxic alcohol killed sixty-nine workers in India
Sixty-nine workers have died and at least 200 others have been hospitalised in northeastern India after drinking toxic liquor, officials said Saturday, in the latest case of alcohol poisoning in the country.

Our interest in keeping Nawaz and Zardari out of politics: Pervez Musharraf

Former President General (retd) Pervez Musharraf
Former president General (retd) Pervez Musharraf has said Pakistan's current environment is favourable for his return and he will definitely come back to the country.

Addressing the media in Dubai on Friday, the former president while responding to a question said, "I have two courses open — first is that I do not go at all. But how can I not go? Pakistan is my country and my roots are there.

There is no question that I don't go. I will definitely go but there is one way of jumping and going all of a sudden like fools and the other is waiting a little.

The environment is better now in my opinion, the political environment favours that I go back."

In the current government, half of the ministers are those who were part of my cabinet, he added. "The law minister is my own and the attorney general is my own lawyer."

Dismissing reports that he is critically ill, Musharraf said, "An impression is being given that I am suffering with an illness owning to which I cannot move. I have no such issue.”

Regarding his political party, Musharraf said, “Our party [All Pakistan Muslim League] is being reorganised and Hidayatullah Khaishgi will be its new chairman.”

“Our party has no interest in destabilising the current [Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf] government, in fact, I feel if we have an interest in keeping Nawaz Sharif and Asif Zardari out of politics as they destroyed the country.

This government has made a third political force and we fully support it,” he added.

What the Number of Pushups

The number of pushups you can do at once may be an easy and effective way to measure your heart health.
New research suggests men who can do 40 pushups or more at once may have lower risk of heart disease than those who can’t. Here’s why.

Was the last time you did pushups in gym class?

If so, it could be time to lie down and try out a few reps, because this simple exercise means more about your health than you think.

According to a new study published in JAMA Network Open, pushup capacity is inversely associated with future cardiovascular disease (CVD) incidents — meaning the more pushups you can do, the less likely you are to have a heart attack or stroke.

Researchers found that CVD risk was 96 percent lower in men who were able to do 40 or more pushups during a physical test compared to men who could do 10 or fewer.

The retrospective longitudinal study followed 1,104 male firefighters over a 10-year period between 2000 and 2010. The men underwent baseline and periodic physical examinations that included timed pushups and cardiorespiratory endurance (such as a treadmill test).

“Those completing the least pushups at baseline went on to have the highest rates of new CVD diagnoses; while those competing the most pushups at baseline enjoyed the lowest subsequent rates of CVD,” Dr. Stefanos N. Kales, MPH, professor of medicine, Harvard Medical School, and one of the study’s authors, told Healthline.

Surprisingly, he said, pushup capacity also was a better predictor of CVD outcomes than submaximal treadmill tests, a more commonly used test.

Deborah Davis came across the story in a London newspaper more than 20 years ago
The film starring Olivia Colman, Rachel Weisz and Emma Stone leads the Oscars race with 10 nominations along with Roma.

They say fact is stranger than fiction and that is certainly true of the film The Favourite.

The plot revolves around the real life relationship between Queen Anne and two women - Sarah Churchill, the Duchess of Marlborough, and Abigail Masham. Both women vied not only for Anne's affection but for political power in her court.

Starring Olivia Colman as Queen Anne, Rachel Weisz as Sarah and Emma Stone as Abigail, The Favourite, directed by Yorgos Lanthimos, leads the Oscars race with 10 nominations along with Roma.

One of the film's writers, Deborah Davis, came across the story in a London newspaper more than 20 years ago. She was surprised by the suggestion of a lesbian relationship between Queen Anne and Sarah Churchill and felt compelled to look into the veracity of the story.

She found original letters between Anne, Sarah and Abigail and was so convinced it would make a wonderful film that she went to film school to learn how to write a screenplay.

Fast forward two decades, she and fellow writer Tony McNamara have been nominated for the best original screenplay Oscar.

London's Failure To Get FTA With Japan

The United Kingdom and Japan have practically no chances of producing a free trade agreement (FTA) before arch 29 when London leaves the European Union
OSCOW, Valentina Shvartsman - The United Kingdom and Japan have practically no chances of producing a free trade agreement (FTA) before arch 29 when London leaves the European Union, which is likely to inflict a heavy cost on bilateral economic ties, with Honda and Nissan carmakers reconsidering their operations in the country being "just the tip of an iceberg," experts told Sputnik.

An FTA with Japan has been among key priorities for London after the Brexit referendum, since Tokyo is the UK's major economic partner, and Japanese businesses have invested billions of Pounds in the UK economy, while some 1,000 Japanese firms operating in the European country are employing nearly 140,000 people.

However, the signing of a new trade deal with Japan would take months or even years, David Bailey, a professor of Industrial Strategy at the Aston Business School, told Sputnik.

"There is little chance that the FTA will be signed by March 29th. It could take months if not years," Bailey said.

Professor Ulrich Volz, the head of the Department of Economics at the SOAS University of London, agreed with such assessment saying that the two nations had "virtually zero" chances to negotiate a new deal in 2019.

"To get to a new agreement that will also be ratified it will take significant amounts of time, even with good will from both sides. I don't expect this to happen in the current year," Volz explained to Sputnik.

Bailey noted that London was seeking to produce a deal similar to the EU-Japan FTA, which came into effect on February 1, but Japanese negotiators might use the UK rush for a new trade pact as soon as possible as leverage in the ongoing talks.

"The UK wants a cut and paste version of the recent EU-Japan trade deal but Japan can sense the UK's desperation for a deal and may well press for further UK concessions," he said.

The Japanese side has repeatedly voiced its concerns over the possibility of a no-deal Brexit that would deprive Japanese firms with headquarters in the United Kingdom of smooth access to the EU market  something that brought them to the country in the first place.

Tokyo's deep concerns over the looming possibility of the UK failing to reach an agreement with the European Union are among key reasons for the delay, Seijiro Takeshita, a professor at the University of Shizuoka's school of Management and Information, told Sputnik.

"UK is asking for haste, but the Japanese delegates are not happy about the fact that they were promised that EU-UK deal would be made for sure  and it has not," Takeshita said.

Volz highlighted that Japan's disappointment with the United Kingdom failing to alleviate its fears over losing access to the entire European market would also factor into the trade negotiations.

"Brexit is a stark blow to British-Japanese economic relations ... There is great disappointment in the reliability of the British side. The UK should be under no illusions that she will get great concessions in trade negotiations with Japan," Volz said.

Takeshita pointed out that aversion to risks and uncertainty, an inherent feature of Japanese mentality, had caused major Japanese brands to mull downscaling business operations in the United Kingdom over no-deal Brexit fears.

"Japanese hate uncertainty and have a very strong tendency of risk avoidance.

I know that many  if not all  are thinking of either shrinking their operation in UK or transferring totally to the continent," Takeshita said.

Indeed, several Japanese companies have announced their decisions to limit business operations in the United Kingdom. In early February, Nissan automobile manufacturer announced that it had decided to consolidate X-Trail production in Japan, instead of the previously chosen Sunderland plant in England, citing wider industry pressures in the United Kingdom and Brexit uncertainty.

Earlier this week, Japanese carmaker Honda said it planned to close its only factory in the United Kingdom  the Swindon plant that employs some 3,500 people  in 2021, citing the need to restructure its global manufacturing network to focus on regions with higher production volumes of electrified cars.

Takeshita pointed out that Brexiteers were wrong in believing the Nissan decision to close its only plant in the United Kingdom was not motivated by Brexit, urging the UK government to "get real."

"They [Honda and Nissan] are not alone, in fact just the tip of an iceberg which has surfaced," he stressed.

Volz echoed his concerns, noting that more Japanese firms are likely to follow the suit of Nissan and Honda over the lack of trust for the UK government's promises.

"We will likely see other high-profile cases with major Japanese companies shifting their headquarters and production out of the EU in case of a hard Brexit. It looks as if the assurances the British government gave to the Japanese government were not worth much," he said.

Bailey suggested that Toyota car maker, that has previously voiced its concerns over possible impact of no-deal Brexit on its output, might be the next to reconsider having its production facilities in the United Kingdom.

Not only Japanese carmakers, but electronics companies too have had enough with the Brexit uncertainty. Panasonic has already relocated its European headquarters from the United Kingdom to the Netherlands, while Sony Corporation will follow suit in March.

The United Kingdom has been Japan's second-biggest investment destination, but this may change as well due to growing ambiguity around Brexit.

"Japanese firms are clearly turning away from the UK. The UK has become significantly less attractive as a destination for Japanese investment," Volz said.

Takeshita pointed out that the situation is likely to further deteriorate over the next few years  whether or not the United Kingdom secures deals with both the European Union and Japan.

"Whatever the outcome, Japanese investments in the UK will have a free fall in coming years," the Japanese expert said.

On June 23, 2016, the United Kingdom voted in a referendum to leave the European Union. The negotiations between the United Kingdom and Brussels started in June and are due to be completed by the end of March 2019. Immediately thereafter, on March 30, 2019, the transitional period will begin. It will last until December 31, 2020.

The failure to get the much-needed trade deal with Tokyo by the March 29 deadline was recognized by UK Business Secretary Greg Clark, who admitted on Tuesday that the FTA was unlikely to be in place when the UK Thalassa Mana cargo ship arrives in Japan on March 30, a day after Brexit, creating uncertainty about customs barriers UK exports might face.

Unstoppable Gladiators take on super-charged Qalandars today

Unstoppable Gladiators take on super-charged Qalandars today
Riding on a high from their win from last night against Multan Sultans, Lahore Qalandars will take on the unstoppable Quetta Gladiators in the first Pakistan Super League fixture for the day at the Sharjah Cricket Stadium today.

The AB de Villiers led Qalandars will look to build upon on their last night’s theatrics where they defeated the Sultans by six wickets.

The Qalandars currently sit fourth on the points table with two wins from two matches. On the other hand, the Gladiators are at the top with a perfect record of three wins out of three.

With a rocky start to the tournament where Qalandars were thumped by Islamabad United by five wickets, the Lahore based franchise turned things around from themselves, beating Karachi Kings by 22 runs, but lost their next game by seven wickets to Peshawar Zalmi. However, a 201 run chase and sixer off the last ball, gave the Qalandars a much-needed boost as they beat Sultans in the next game.

On the other hand, Gladiators under the leadership of Sarfaraz Ahmed have been unstoppable since the tournament kicked off, beating Zalmi by six wickets, United by seven and Sultans by eight wickets.

Fakhar Zaman, De Villiers and his partner in crime David Wiese will be the men to watch out as they will look continue their form for the Qalandars.

However, their bowling department will be in the limelight after none of the Qalandars bowlers gave them the much-needed breakthrough against Sultans.

For Gladiators, Shane Watson who rolled back the years with an impressive knock of 81* from 55 balls against Sultans will be looking to go roaring again. Added with the bowling power of Sohail Tanvir and Fawad Ahmed, Gladiators will defiantly be a force to be reckoned with.

The match between Lahore Qalandars and Quetta Gladiators will start at 4pm Pakistan Standard Time.

Trump replace envoy to Canada Nikki Haley for UN ambassador

American politician Nikki Haley
President Donald Trump said on Friday he was nominating Kelly Craft, currently the US ambassador to Canada, to replace Nikki Haley as his envoy to the United Nations after a four-month search.

Craft, a top Republican donor from Kentucky, rose this week as a serious contender for the post based on a recommendation by Senate Majority Leader Mitch McConnell, a fellow Kentuckian.

Craft will not hold a Cabinet-level position, as Haley did, a senior White House official said, after Trump decided to downgrade the post. Regardless, she will need to be confirmed by the US Senate.

“Kelly has done an outstanding job representing our Nation and I have no doubt that, under her leadership, our Country will be represented at the highest level,” Trump said in a tweet announcing his decision.

Secretary of State Mike Pompeo called Craft “extremely well-qualified” and an “outstanding advocate for America’s national security and economic interests in Canada.”

Craft met with Trump, Pompeo and national security adviser John Bolton in the Oval Office on Friday, a source familiar with the situation told Reuters.

She was seen as a tough negotiator in a new U.S. trade deal with Canada and Mexico and as ambassador to Canada established decent working relationships with both Republicans and Democrats in Congress, the source said.

If confirmed, Craft will have the difficult job of defending Trump’s “America First” foreign policy and navigating Trump’s criticism of the world body while getting global diplomats to back U.S. policies.

French UN Ambassador Francois Delattre said he looked forward to working with Craft if she was confirmed by the Senate.

“I hope that Ms Craft will continue, like Nikki Haley, to be a bridge between Washington, DC and the UN at a time when we more than ever need an America that is engaged with the UN in world affairs and committed to our shared values, beginning with human rights,” Delattre said.

Haley, a rising Republican star who resigned in October and left in late 2018, was seen by her counterparts at the United Nations as a voice of clarity in a US administration that often gave off mixed signals on foreign policy, diplomats said.

Craft will face a variety of challenges, including championing US efforts to contain Iran’s influence in the Middle East and ensuring the global body maintains tough sanctions on North Korea as Washington tries to negotiate an end to Pyongyang’s nuclear and missile programs.

The United States has also gone to the United Nations in recent weeks to seek international recognition of opposition leader Juan Guaido as Venezuela’s legitimate president over socialist leader Nicolas Maduro.

Craft was Trump’s second choice for the UN position.

He had planned to nominate former State Department spokeswoman Heather Nauert, but she withdrew her name from consideration last week for family reasons.

A person familiar with the matter told Reuters Nauert withdrew from consideration because she had a nanny who was in the United States legally but did not have the proper work visa. Nauert did not comment.

Having been confirmed by the Senate for the Canada post, Craft should have a smoother confirmation path and less problems with vetting, the source said.

Trump had also considered other candidates including U.S. Ambassador to Germany Richard Grenell and Republican John James, who lost a bid for a US Senate seat in Michigan last November.

Former senior White House aide Dina Powell was also on Trump’s radar, but she was believed to be disinterested in the position after she returned to Goldman Sachs Group a year ago.

Indian allegations of Bahawalpur madrassah being JeM headquarters false: Fawad Chaudhry

Federal Information Minister Fawad Chaudhry
Federal Information Minister Fawad Chaudhry on Saturday rejected Indian allegations that a madrassah in Bahawalpur, which the Punjab government recently took administrative control of, is the headquarters of Jaish-e-Mohammad (JeM).

In a video message on twitter, Chaudhry clarified that the Punjab government took administrative control of Madrassatul Sabir and Jamia-e-Masjid Subhanallah in Bahawalpur in line with the decisions taken during the National Security Council (NSC) meeting held on Thursday and as part of the National Action Plan (NAP).

"During yesterday's NSC meeting yesterday it was decided that NAP will be fully implemented. Some steps were taken in this regard yesterday and today the Punjab government took administrative control of a madrassah in Bahawalpur," the information minister said.

"This is the madrassah that India was doing propaganda over and alleging that it is the headquarters of JeM. Tomorrow, the Punjab government will give media persons a tour of the madrassahs so everyone can see how it is functioning and see the truth for themselves," he added.

Stating that "around 700 students are studying at the madrassah", the information minister said, "This step [to take administrative control] has nothing to do with the attack in occupied Kashmir."

"NAP is our own security document over which all political parties are in consensus and we are implementing it," he stressed.

Tensions have soared between the nuclear-armed rivals since a suicide attack last week killed 41 soldiers in occupied Kashmir, the deadliest attack in years.

YouTube’s ‘whack-a-mole approach’ to child safety isn’t working

The Google-owned video site’s latest scandal isn’t the first time the service has had a problem with the exploitation of kids.
YouTube is under fire again for allowing content that exploits children onto its platform. After reports of a "softcore pedophile ring" on the Google-owned site surfaced last weekend, YouTube on Thursday said it's taking aggressive action to fix the problem.

The company banned more than 400 accounts and took down dozens of videos that put children at risk.

But even though YouTube addressed this particular controversy, critics of the company say they're fed up that problems with child safety keep arising in the first place. For example, two years ago, YouTube faced a backlash after disturbing videos got past filters on YouTube Kids, a version of the service designed for children.

"This has been happening for years," Haley Halverson, vice president of advocacy and outreach at the National Center on Sexual Exploitation, said in an email. "Why isn't it YouTube's No. 1 priority to create sustained solutions, instead of carrying on with its current whack-a-mole approach?"

The latest incident began on Sunday, when a video blogger named Matt Watson detailed how pedophiles could enter a "wormhole" of YouTube videos to see footage of children in sexually suggestive positions. In the comments of those videos, users would post time stamps linking to other videos, and YouTube's algorithms would recommend even more of those kinds of videos.

In response, advertisers including AT&T and Epic Games, maker of Fortnite, pulled ad spending from YouTube.

YouTube declined to make an executive available for an interview, but in a statement a spokeswoman said: "Any content -- including comments -- that endangers minors is abhorrent and we have clear policies prohibiting this on YouTube ... There's more to be done, and we continue to work to improve and catch abuse more quickly."

But child advocacy groups say the company isn't working fast enough.

Kratom Overdoses Are on the Rise

Why a kratom overdose is different
In the United States, calls to poison control centers about the drug have jumped dramatically. About 32 percent of those cases ended up being admitted to the hospital, with more than half resulting in serious medical outcomes, including 11 deaths.

According to new research published in the journal Clinical Toxicology, between 2011 and 2017, 1,807 kratom exposures were reported to poison control centers. Two-thirds occurred between 2016-2017 alone.

In 2011, only 13 exposures were reported, compared with 682 in 2017 — jumping from about one call per month to two calls per day.

All in all, a more than 50-fold increase.

“It has gotten more popular I guess you would say. When we started there were tens of cases and now there are hundreds of cases per year,” said Rick Spiller, MS, DABAT, FAACT, a co-author of the research, and director of the Central Ohio Poison Center at Nationwide Children’s Hospital.

Minister for Information and Broadcasting Chaudhry Fawad Hussain
Minister for Information and Broadcasting Chaudhry Fawad Hussain has reiterated the government's commitment to implement the National Action Plan.

In a statement, he said the National Security Committee has taken a decision in this regard and the Plan is being implemented with consent of all political parties.

The Information Minister said India is leveling baseless allegation regarding a Madrassa in Bahawalpur by terming it as headquarters of Jaesh-e-Mohammad which has no reality.

He said Punjab government has taken over the administrative charge of the Madrassa and would take a delegation of journalists to it so they can analyze the facts themselves.

Fawad Chaudhry said more than seven hundred students are studying at the Madrassa and it has nothing to do with the activities in Occupied Kashmir.

US President termed Pakistan and India situation “very bad and dangerous"

US President Donald Trump
US President Donald Trump has termed the situation between Pakistan and India as the “very bad, and dangerous “, adding that his administration was in contact with the neighbouring countries and hoped that the hostilities would soon end in the occupied Kashmir.

While talking to reporters at the Oval Office, US President Trump said that “Right now there is a lot of problems between India and Pakistan because of what happened,” adding that the US would like to see it stop.

“A lot of people were just killed. We want to see it just stop,” he said.

The US president added that the US may set up some meetings with Pakistan’s leadership and officials.

He said that “We are very much involved in that (process),” adding that the US was seeking talks with Pakistan.

Trump also noted that the US has developed a “much better” relationship recently with Pakistan.

He said that relations had improved over the last short period of time.

Responding to questions on the deadly attack in Pulwama district of occupied Jammu and Kashmir in which 40 Indian security personnel were killed, Trump said “India is looking at something very strong.

India just lost almost 50 people in the attack. I can understand that too.”

Relations between the two neighbouring countries have deteriorated following an attack on Indian forces in Indian-Administered Kashmir.

The Pulwama attack claimed the lives of over 40 Indian paramilitary troops.

India has claimed that Pakistan is responsible for the attack, however, Pakistan has denied this and offered its assistance to find the true culprits.
