NASA to send a golf cart-sized robot to the moon surface in 2022

Robot will tour the moon
NASA plans to send water-hunting robot to moon surface in 2022 to search for deposits of water below the surface, an effort to evaluate the vital resource ahead of a planned human return to the moon in 2024 to possibly use it for astronauts to drink and to make rocket fuel.

The VIPER robot will drive for miles on the dusty lunar surface to get a closer look at what NASA administrator Jim Bridenstine has touted for months: underground pockets of “hundreds of millions of tons of water ice” that could help turn the moon into a jumping-off point to Mars.

VIPER is going to assess where the water ice is. We’re going to be able to characterise the water ice, and ultimately drill,” Bridenstine said on Friday at the International Astronautical Congress in Washington.

“Why is this important? Because water ice represents something significant. Life support.”

VIPER stands for Volatiles Investigating Polar Exploration Rover.

The rover is expected to arrive on the moon’s south polar region in December 2022, carrying four instruments to sample lunar soil for traces of hydrogen and oxygen – the basic components of water that can be separated and synthesized into fuel for a planned fleet of commercial lunar launch vehicles.

In development at NASA’s Ames Research Center in California, the VIPER robot will log “about 100 days of data that will be used to inform the first global water resource maps of the moon,” NASA said in announcing the plans.

NASA is in the process of kickstarting its Artemis program, an accelerated mission to put people back on the moon for the first time since the 1970s to train and prove technologies that would later be sent on a Mars mission. Scientists have eyed lunar water as a key resource for enabling long-duration astronaut missions on the moon, though its form and exact amount are unknown. VIPER will aim to find out.

NASA crashed a rocket onto the moon’s south pole in 2009 to confirm traces of lunar water ice in the plume of dust kicked up upon impact.

Main function of the Black Day will be held in the state capital Muzaffarabad. Prime Minister Raja Farooq Haider Khan will preside over the function. A rally will also be taken out at the end of programme.

Minister for Kashmir Affairs Ali Amin Gandapur in his message on the eve of Black Day has asked international community to take early action against Indian unilateral and illegal step of August 5, as Kashmiris are facing curfew for the last 84 days.

In an exclusive message recorded for News and Current Affairs Channel of Radio Pakistan on Black Day, President All Jammu and Kashmir Muslim Conference Sardar Attique Ahmad Khan said India should respect the UNSC resolutions pertaining to the status of Kashmir.

Rejecting the enforced annexation of occupied Kashmir with India, he said it is Kashmiris' territory and they would decide their political future.

16 sentenced to death after Bangladesh teen burnt alive

16 sentenced to death after Bangladesh teen burnt alive
A court in Bangladesh sentenced 16 people to death on Thursday over the murder of a 19-year-old female student burnt alive in April that provoked outrage across the country.

Nusrat Jahan Rafi was doused in kerosene and set on fire after refusing to withdraw a sexual harassment complaint against the head teacher of the seminary she attended.

“The verdict proves that nobody will get away with murder in Bangladesh. We have the rule of law,” prosecutor Hafez Ahmed told reporters after the verdict in a crowded courtroom.

Rafi was lured to the rooftop of the seminary where her attackers pressed her to withdraw the complaint she had filed with police.

When she refused, she was tied up, doused in kerosene and set on fire.

She suffered burns to 80 per cent of her body and died in hospital five days later on April 10. Her death triggered outrage and also highlighted an alarming rise in sexual harassment cases in the South Asian country of 165 million people.

Protesters in the capital Dhaka staged days of demonstrations seeking “exemplary punishment” for the killers. Bangladeshi Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina had promised to prosecute all those involved.

'No big deal'

Rafi had gone to police in late March to report the sexual harassment, and a leaked video shows the local police station chief registering her complaint but dismissing it as “not a big deal”.

At the time police had said that one of the 18 people initially arrested had accused the school's principal of ordering the attack.

The teacher “told them to put pressure on Rafi to withdraw the case or kill her if she refused”, senior police superintendent Mohammad Iqbal, who led the investigation, had told AFP.

Iqbal had also said that some of those arrested were Rafi's classmates and that they had tied her up with a scarf before setting her on fire.

“The plan was to pass the incident off as a suicide. But it fell through after Rafi managed to come downstairs while on fire because the scarf burnt and freed her hands and feet,” he said.

Activists say the murder exposed a culture of impunity surrounding sex crimes against women and children, and that fact that those who report harassment often suffer a backlash.

Prosecutions are also rare in cases of rape and sexual assault. After the murder, Bangladesh ordered some 27,000 schools to set up committees to prevent sexual violence.

Defence lawyers said they would appeal against Thursday's verdict in the high court. The case was fast-tracked with the hearing taking only 62 days.

PM Imran vows not to resign 'at any cost'

Prime Minister Imran Khan
Prime Minister Imran Khan on Wednesday expressed his resolve not to cave into pressure from his political nemesis Maulana Fazlur Rehman who intends to mount "Azadi March" on Islamabad later this month.

In a meeting with senior journalists and analysts, which lasted for over an hour, the prime minister expressed his views about the JUI-F's threat of launching protest, issues of inflation, unemployment and foreign policy.

The prime minister sees a conspiracy behind Maulana Fazl's protest which he said is driven by a certain agenda.

"There is no question of my resignation and I will not resign. Dharna is agenda based, and it has foreign support," senior journalist Irshad Bhatti quoted the prime minister as saying.

The prime minister was of the view that the JUI-F's plan to protest has sent a wave of joy in India.

“I don’t understand what Maulana’s problem is,” he was quoted as saying in the meeting. “I don’t understand the agenda of the opposition.”

He acknowledged that inflation and unemployment remain a big problem which his government is trying to resolve.

When his attention was drawn towards the opposition's stance that the PTI had also staged a sit-in, Prime Minister Imran Khan said his dharna was not staged for nothing.

He said he had proofs of election rigging in four constituencies when he had staged the sit-in at D-Chowk.

Asked about media restrictions on Maulana Fazlur Rehman, he said there was no ban on broadcasting JUI-F Ameer's interviews or press conferences.

British police find 39 dead in truck container, arrest driver

British police find 39 dead in truck container
British police found the bodies of 39 people inside a truck believed to have come from Bulgaria at an industrial estate to the east of London on Wednesday, and said they had arrested the driver on suspicion of murder.

The discovery was made in the early hours after emergency services were alerted to people in the truck container, on a gritty industrial site in Grays, about 20 miles from central London.

The truck was thought to have entered Britain at Holyhead, a North Wales port that is a major entry point for traffic from Ireland, on Saturday and to have originally started its journey in Bulgaria, police said. The driver of the truck, a 25-year-old man from Northern Ireland, was in custody.

Prime Minister Boris Johnson said he was appalled.

“I am receiving regular updates and the Home Office will work closely with Essex Police as we establish exactly what has happened,” Johnson said on Twitter. “My thoughts are with all those who lost their lives & their loved ones.”

All those in the container, 38 adults and one teenager, were pronounced dead at the scene after the emergency services were called to the Waterglade Industrial Park, not far from docks on the River Thames.

Bulgaria's foreign ministry said it could not confirm at this stage whether the truck had started its journey from the country.

“We are still checking the information, published in the British media and we're contacting the authorities,” foreign ministry spokeswoman Tsvetana Krasteva said.

Police officers in forensic suits were on Wednesday inspecting a large white container on a red truck next to warehouses at the site. Police had sealed off the surrounding area of the industrial estate with large green barriers as they carried out their investigation.

“At this stage, we have not identified where the victims are from or their identities and we anticipate this could be a lengthy process,” Essex Police Deputy Chief Constable Pippa Mills told reporters. “This is an absolute tragedy.”

Mills said finding out who the victims were was their top priority, while a key line of inquiry was determining the truck's route from Bulgaria to Ireland and then onto Britain.

Nearby businesses said they had been unable to gain access to their units on the site due to the large police cordon.

“The police came in the night — they have closed the whole area,” said a worker at a nearby cafe, who declined to give his name.

For years, illegal immigrants have attempted to reach Britain stowed away in the back of trucks, often seeking to reach the United Kingdom from the European mainland.

In Britain's biggest illegal immigrant tragedy in 2000, British customs officials found the bodies of 58 Chinese people crammed into a tomato truck at the southern port of Dover.

Asif Zardari allowed to have home-cooked and diet food in jail

Asif Zardari
The Pakistan Institute of Medical Sciences (PIMS) medical board has recommended former president Asif Ali Zardari to eat only home-cooked and diet food after his health deteriorated.

According to hospital sources, doctors instructed the PPP Co-chairman to avoid the use of salt and oil in food. The medical board allowed the former president to eat fish and chicken, in small quantities and advised him to take more vegetables.

Yesterday, Zardari was brought to PIMS for lab tests on the recommendation of the medical board in Adiala jail.

The PPP leader was brought to the hospital on Tuesday from Adiala jail in an armoured vehicle.

Doctors at the hospital performed a medical examination and took samples for labs. The former president has meanwhile been shifted to the cardiology department of the hospital.

Last week, an accountability court in Islamabad had ordered jail authorities to act upon the advice of medical officers on Zardari’s plea for his shifting to a hospital.

Biogen resurrects Alzheimer's drug; shares jump 37%

Biogen
Biogen Inc (BIIB.O) on Tuesday made a surprising reversal on its Alzheimer’s treatment with plans now to seek U.S. regulatory approval, after data from more patients in two discontinued studies showed that the drug improved cognition at high doses.

The drugmaker’s shares soared 37% in premarket trade, erasing most of their losses this year that came after it abandoned two studies for the drug.

Biogen and partner Eisai Co Ltd (4523.T) had in March decided to end two late-stage trials of aducanumab based on a so-called “futility analysis” of data, which revealed the trials had little hope of succeeding.

The failure of the treatment, which was widely expected to be Biogen’s next blockbuster treatment, spurred demands on Wall Street for it to spend more on product acquisitions at a time when its peers have splurged on billions of dollars in deals.

The company said more data became available after the two studies were discontinued in March, resulting in a larger dataset and a new analysis showed that one of the trials met the main goal, while the other did not.

Patients who received aducanumab experienced significant benefits on measures of cognition and function such as memory, orientation and language, Biogen said.

The filing with U.S. regulators could “potentially bring back to life a drug that had been completely left for dead,” RBC Capital Markets analyst Brian Abrahams wrote in a note.

“The viability of such a filing is unknown, given the mixed results - in our view, Biogen is somewhat desperate for growth drivers... so a change in narrative is badly needed.”

Biogen said it plans to submit a marketing application for aducanumab in early 2020 based on discussions with the Food and Drug Administration.

There are no current approved therapies for reversing the decline of Alzheimer’s and any successful new treatment is likely to garner billions in sales. Alzheimer’s makes up 60-70% of an estimated 50 million cases of dementia globally.

Baird analyst Brian Skorney said an FDA approval for aducanumab is highly unlikely and expects Biogen to have an uphill climb to convince regulators that these results were nothing more than random chance.

Biogen also reported a better-than-expected third-quarter profit. The company's profit beat Wall Street expectations, boosted by higher demand for rare muscle disease drug, Spinraza. (bit.ly/2N0C8ed)

Shares of Biogen, which had lost 25.7% of its value this year as of Monday’s close, rose to $307 in premarket trade.

Hover-taxi whizzes over Singapore, firm eyes Asian push

Hover-taxi whizzes over Singapore, firm eyes Asian push
A drone-like flying taxi whirred over Singapore's waterfront on Tuesday, with the firm behind the test hoping the aircraft will revolutionise travel in traffic-choked Asian cities.

The 18 propeller vehicle, developed by German firm Volocopter and with a pilot onboard for safety during the test flight, took off from a promontory and flew for about two minutes and 30 seconds around the Marina Bay district.

Heavy rains in the morning almost delayed the flight, but the skies cleared in time for the battery-operated, two-seater taxi to quietly fly past skyscrapers.

While the hover-taxis — resembling small helicopters but powered by drone-like technology — are autonomous, there was a pilot inside during the test for safety reasons.

Volocopter has already conducted tests in Dubai, Helsinki, Germany and Las Vegas but the Singapore trial is the company's first in the heart of a city.

The orderly metropolis is likely to be among the first to get the service, with a commercial rollout expected in two to four years, and Volocopter then hopes to introduce the vehicles in traffic-clogged Asian cities.

“We aim to bring it to Jakarta and Manila and Bangkok because they have a great need for it, India and China (too),” Volocopter chief executive Florian Reuter told reporters.

Sprawling cities — like Jakarta and Manila — are notorious for monster traffic jams, which leave millions of commuters facing long journeys, and can delay executives trying to dash to airports or reach important meetings on time.

In Singapore, the flying taxi will be used to provide quick travel on specific routes such as from Marina Bay to Sentosa island, home to a number of tourist attractions and luxury hotels.

Earlier this week in the city-state, Volocopter unveiled the “VoloPort”, a flying taxi port at the water's edge with a landing and takeoff pad as well as a passenger terminal.

The port was not used for Tuesday's test flight because it has not been certified yet.

Duncan Walker, managing director of Skyports, a key partner of Volocopter, said the air taxis will not be marketed as a replacement but as another transport option.

“It's something that we think will change the dynamic of how people move around cities,” he added.

Volocopter — which Chinese car-maker Geely has a stake in — faces some competition, including from Uber and Kitty Hawk, a firm backed by Google co-founder Larry Page.

Singapore has become a centre for testing self-driving vehicles, and earlier this year conducted a public trial of autonomous buses booked through an app. The city-state is currently hosting a major transport technology conference.

Rashid among top picks, Gayle misses out in The Hundred draft

Chris Gayle
Afghanistan leg-spinner Rashid Khan became the first overseas player picked for the inaugural 'The Hundred' competition next year, but Twenty20 stalwarts Chris Gayle and Lasith Malinga were among notable omissions in Sunday's draft.

Rashid, the number one Twenty20 bowler, was snared by Trent Rockets for the top price of 125,000.

Australian players dominated the first major player draft in British sport with batting mainstay Steve Smith and quick Mitchell Starc picked up by Welsh Fire for 125,000 each.

“It's going to be exciting to be in the first ever hundred-ball comp,” Smith told Sky Sports via satellite link.

“I'm looking forward to joining the Welsh Fire, Jonny (Bairstow) and Starcy and the boys there — it looks a good squad that they've picked up so far so I'm looking forward to it.”

Team mate David Warner joined Southern Brave who also picked explosive West Indies all-rounder Andre Russell.

Australia's limited overs captain Aaron Finch joined Northern Superchargers while team mate Glenn Maxwell was snared by London Spirit.

Apart from Rashid, other Afghan spinners in the tournament include Mujeeb Ur Rahman (Superchargers), Mohammad Nabi (Spirit) and Qais Ahmed (Welsh Fire).

West Indies opener Chris Gayle and Sri Lankan quick Malinga entered the draft as two of its most expensive players at 125,000 but neither could find a team.

The eight franchises were keen to recruit the Australian players who will be available for the entire duration of the 100-ball competition scheduled in July-August next year.

Box Office: 'Maleficent: Mistress of Evil' dominates with soft $36 million

Angelina Jolie
Five years after Angelina Jolie’s “Maleficent” cast a spell over the box office, the villainous enchantress has returned to the top of domestic charts. Disney’s “Maleficent: Mistress of Evil,” a sequel to 2014’s fantasy adventure based on the “Sleeping Beauty” sorceress, debuted to $36 million from 2,790 North American theaters, nearly half of what the first movie made in its inaugural weekend ($69 million).

Despite opening below projections heading into the weekend, “Maleficent: Mistress of Evil” easily towered over competition including holdover from Warner Bros.’ “Joker” and newcomer Sony’s “Zombieland: Double Tap.” The “Maleficent” follow-up did benefit as one of the few offerings catering to younger female moviegoers in a marketplace that’s been largely dominated by male-skewed titles like “Joker” and Paramount’s “Gemini Man.” Women represented 56% of ticket buyers, about 50% of which were under the age of 25.

“Maleficent: Mistress of Evil” marks the lowest opening weekend of the year for Disney and will now rely on the international box office to recoup its $185 million budget. The film had much more promising showing overseas, lifting off with $117 million for a global start of $150 million. The original pulled in an impressive $517 million from foreign markets and another $241 million from the domestic market.

Elle Fanning also returned for the sequel, joining newcomers to the series Michelle Pfeiffer, Ed Skrein and Chiwetel Ejiofor. “Maleficent: Mistress of Evil” was directed by Joachim Ronning (“Pirates of the Caribbean: Dead Man Tell No Tales”).

Fellow new release “Zombieland: Double Tap” launched at No. 3 with a better-than-expected $26.7 million and should continue to build momentum in coming weeks as Halloween nears. The original “Zombieland” premiered to $24 million in 2009 and ended its box office run with a solid $102 million globally. Directed by Ruben Fleischer, the zombie comedy reunites stars Woody Harrelson, Jesse Eisenberg, Emma Stone, Abigail Breslin and Bill Murray. Rosario Dawson, Zoey Deutch, Luke Wilson and Thomas Middleditch joined the cast. “Zombieland 2” cost $42 million to make, roughly double what the studio spent on the original ($23 million).

After its two-week reign atop domestic box office charts, “Joker” slid to second place and added $29 million in its third weekend of release. That puts the dark supervillain origin story — starring Joaquin Phoenix and directed by Todd Phillips — close to the $250 million mark in North America, with ticket sales hitting $247 million. Overseas, “Joker” has scared up a mighty $490 million for a worldwide bounty of $737.5 million.

In other milestones, STX and Lorene Scafaria’s “Hustlers” crossed the coveted $100 million benchmark at the domestic box office. After six weeks in theaters, “Hustlers” pulled in another $2 million, boosting its haul to $101.8 million in North America and $128.8 million globally.

Meanwhile, Focus Features’ “Downton Abbey” has surpassed $88 million in the States and now stands as the studio’s highest-grossing movie ever at the domestic box office, a record previously held by “Brokeback Mountain” with $83 million.

Among awards season hopefuls, Fox Searchlight’s “Jojo Rabbit” bowed with a strong $350,000 from five theaters in New York and Los Angeles, averaging $70,000 from each location. Written and directed by Taika Waititi (who also stars in the film as an absurdist imaginary Adolf Hitler), “Jojo Rabbit” is set during World War II and follows a young boy eager to join the Hitler Youth, who discovers his mother is hiding a Jewish girl in their attic. Critics have been mostly impressed with “Jojo Rabbit” (it holds a 77% on Rotten Tomatoes), while audiences have awarded it with an A CinemaScore.

“There are many reasons to be very optimistic about the future of ‘Jojo Rabbit,’” said Frank Rodriguez, Fox Searchlight’s president of domestic distribution. “Notably, the very good performance at the box office this weekend, the excellent CinemaScore of A, and the interest that we see from exhibitors and moviegoers who are eager to play and see the film in the coming weeks.”

“Jojo Rabbit,” based on the novel “Caging Skies,” will continue its paced rollout next weekend in eight new markets, including Denver, Austin, Phoenix, Washington DC, Boston, Chicago, San Francisco and Toronto. The studio is aiming for a nationwide release by Nov. 8. The cast includes Roman Griffin Davis, Thomasin McKenzie, Scarlett Johansson, Rebel Wilson and Sam Rockwell.

Elsewhere, Robert Eggers’ “The Lighthouse” took in $419,764 from eight venues. The darkly comedic drama, led by Robert Pattinson and Willem Dafoe, will continue to expand nationwide next weekend, where it will play on 500 screens.

China will keep door open to foreign investment, global industry despite trade war

China will keep door open to foreign investment, global industry despite trade war
China will take steps to safeguard its interests, but won't close its door to foreign investment and the global industry despite trade frictions with the United States, a Chinese official said on Tuesday.

Earlier this month, before key Sino-US trade talks, Washington decided to widen its so-called “entities list” to include some top Chinese artificial intelligence startups such as Megvii Technology and SenseTime Group.

Firms on the US “entity list” are barred from buying US parts and components without US government approval due to national security concerns.

“We will look at the trade friction between China and the US with an open mind and a big heart,” said Huang Libin, a spokesman for the Chinese Ministry of Industry and Information Technology (MIIT), although China will also closely monitor the US entities list.

China will further open sectors including telecommunications, internet and autos to foreign investment, but at the same time, the US should respect trade rules and act with caution, Huang said.

“We will not blindly emphasize “self-developed and controllable”, and will not decouple from the development of international industries,” Huang told reporters at a briefing.

The trade war with the US has prompted China to downplay its Made in China 2025 — the state-backed industrial policy aimed at catapulting China up the global technological value chain but is also core to Washington's complaints about the country's technological ambitions.

Under the Made in China 2025 banner, China was to upgrade its industrial base in 10 strategic sectors by 2025, including aerospace, robotics, semiconductors, artificial intelligence and new-energy vehicles.

Chinese President Xi Jinping has also previously repeatedly urged the country's core technologies to be “self-developed and controllable”, which has been viewed by industry players as a stance that favours local suppliers over foreign entities.

One of the biggest US complaints is that China has used coercion and outright theft to systematically obtain American intellectual property and trade secrets and advance its standing in many high-technology industries.

China's subsidies to state enterprises — including at the provincial and local government levels — have led to Chinese industries substantially boosting output of products such as steel, which in turn has depressed global prices and hurt producers in the United States and elsewhere.

US officials argue the absence of a level-playing field makes it hard for US companies to compete.

Over recent months, Chinese tech companies, especially those targeted by the US, have vowed to deal with the US sanctions by relying on more self-developed solutions and procuring more from local suppliers.

Still, with China and the US working to hammer out a “phase 1” trade deal in the near term, Beijing has taken care to keep its rhetoric neutral.

In recent days, China has renewed efforts in stressing the need for both sides to aim for mutual gain, rather than to decouple their economies.

Imran Khan will be responsible if anything happens to Nawaz: Ahsan Iqbal

The Pakistan Muslim League-Nawaz leaders Ahsan Iqbal and Marriyum Aurangzeb
The Pakistan Muslim League-Nawaz leaders stated on Tuesday that Prime Minister Imran Khan will be held responsible if anything happens to former prime minister Nawaz Sharif.

PML-N leaders including Ahsan Iqbal and Marriyum Aurangzeb addressed media today, where they spoke about the deteriorating condition of the imprisoned PML-N founder.

Ahsan Iqbal said that politicising health issues of political opponents has been a trademark move of the Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf, adding that the personal physician of the former prime minister informed officials about his health issues.

The officials threw the medical reports of the former prime minister into the bin, alleged the PML-N leaders.

Former prime minister Nawaz Sharif was shifted to Services Hospital Lahore for medical examination and treatment after his condition deteriorated with a sudden drop in his platelet count.

Taking to Twitter, the former prime minister’s personal physician Dr Adnan Malik stated that Nawaz required immediate in-hospital care.

“Former PM #NawazSharif is detected to have critically low Platelet Count (16*10^9/L) that could be due to multiple pathologies & requires immediate in-hospital care. I’ve requested the concerned authorities to act in urgency please,” he tweeted.

Nawaz was shifted to Services Hospital late Monday night under tight security. The law-enforcing agencies cordoned off the hospital, and patients and their attendants were being subjected to strict security checks.

A team of specialists, led by Principal SIMS/Services Hospital Professor Dr Mahmood Ayyaz, examined Nawaz and conducted the necessary tests to start treatment accordingly.

Indian diplomats don't have moral courage to see truth on the ground: DG ISPR

Diplomatic corps reached the Line of Control (LoC) on Tuesday
Diplomatic corps reached the Line of Control (LoC) on Tuesday to visit the sectors hit by the Indian troops firing on Saturday and Sunday.

Foreign Office Spokesperson Dr Mohammad Faisal is also accompanying the diplomatic corps.

The diplomatic corps will visit Jura, Shahkot and Nousheri's sectors along the LoC and observes the ground situation.

The invitation to the diplomatic corps was extended on emergency basis to heads of missions of all embassies in Islamabad. India Charge de Affairs was also invited to prove the claim of his army chief before the foreign diplomats.

Director-General ISPR Major General Ghafoor who was accompanying the diplomatic corps said foreign diplomats visited Jora Bazaar and met with the people and shopkeepers there. During this, the diplomats also inspected the loss to houses and shops from Indian shelling.

About the Indian breach of the LoC, the military’s media spokesperson said India violated the 2018 agreements for the 3,038th time, while in 2019, India has violated the agreement 2,608 times so far.

He added, in 2018, 58 civilians were martyred and 319 injured, while in 2019 there have been 44 civilians shaheed and 230 injured.

Earlier in a tweet, DG ISPR said Indian diplomats do not have moral courage to see truth on the ground.

“What good Indian High Commission is which can’t stand with its Army Chief? Indian High Commission staff didn’t have the moral courage to accompany fellow diplomats in Pakistan to LoC,” DG ISPR tweeted.

He added a group of foreign diplomats and media is on the way to LoC to see the truth on ground.

Earlier, Dr Faisal in a tweet said the Indian side has not joined them to visit to LoC. "The Indian side has not joined us in the visit to LoC neither have they provided coordinates of the alleged “launchpads”.

“Claims” by Indian Army Chief remain just that: claims”, he added.

Senior journalists representing international media were also accompanying the diplomats, including ambassadors and high commissioners. The diplomats and journalists will be free to visit any part of the area hit by the Indian Army and interview anyone to ascertain the presence or lack thereof any training camp there since the Indian Army chief claimed on Sunday after two-day bombardment that it targeted the so-called camps where the freedom fighters were imparted military training.

At least five civilians and one soldier were martyred on Sunday in cross-border firing.

DG ISPR on Monday had said Pakistan would take diplomats and media on the given locations where India claimed it destroyed three alleged militant camps in Pakistan, to present the actual facts on ground.

"Indians have no grounds to support false claim made by their COAS. If they don’t want to go they have the option to share claimed targeted locations with our foreign office. We will take foreign diplomats & media tomorrow on those given locations. Let all see facts on ground," he tweeted.

Malaysia's Mahathir stands by Kashmir comments despite India palm oil boycott

Malaysian Prime Minister Mahathir Mohamad
Malaysian Prime Minister Mahathir Mohamad on Tuesday said he would not retract his criticism of New Delhi's actions in occupied Kashmir despite Indian traders calling for an unprecedented boycott of Malaysian palm oil.

The impasse could exacerbate what Mahathir described as a trade war between the world's second biggest producer and exporter of the commodity and its biggest buyer so far this year.

India's top vegetable oil trade boady on Monday asked its members to stop buying Malaysian palm oil after Mahathir said at the UN General Assembly last month that India had "invaded and occupied" Kashmir.

Indian Prime Minister Narendra Modi's government on August 5 stripped occupied Kashmir of its semi-autonomous status and imposed a curfew and a communications blackout.

"We speak our minds, and we don't retract or change," Mahathir told reporters outside parliament.

"What we are saying is we should all abide by resolutions of the (United Nations). Otherwise, what is the use of the UN?"

Mahathir said Malaysia would study the impact of the boycott called by the Mumbai-based Solvent Extractors Association of India and look at ways to address the issue.

New Delhi has so far refused to comment on the trade spat.

"This is not the Indian government, so we have to find out how we can communicate with these people, because trade is a two way thing and it is bad to have what amounts to a trade war," Mahathir said.

Malaysia's exports to India were worth $10.8 billion in the fiscal year that ended on March 31, while imports totalled $6.4 billion, according to Indian government data.

Malaysian palm oil futures slipped on Tuesday over concerns demand would fall from India.

India was Malaysia's third-largest export destination in 2018 for palm oil and palm-based products worth 6.84 billion ringgit ($1.63 billion).

Malaysia said last week it was considering raising imports of raw sugar and buffalo meat from India, in a bid to ease the trade tensions.

India, the world's biggest importer of edible oils, also buys palm oil from Indonesia as well as soyoil from Argentina and Brazil, and sunflower oil from Ukraine.

She reveals, But when I first met my now-husband, my friends were really happy because I was so happy but my British friends said to me, 'I’m sure he’s great but you shouldn’t do it because the British tabloids will destroy your life.

And I very naively — I’m American. We don’t have that there — I said, ‘What are you talking about? That doesn’t make any sense. I’m not in any tabloids I didn’t get it. So it’s been yeah it’s been complicated she further added.

So, you add this on top of just trying to be a new mom or trying to be a newlywed. It’s um... yeah. I guess, also thank you for asking, because not many people have asked if I’m okay, but it’s a very real thing to be going through behind the scenes,Markle stated.
